I guess you saw the Harley movie clip that they released? Or at least some stuff about it? I watched it last night and was so upset I couldn't breathe. I don't know if you know, but a big part of the plot is Ivy working with Jason Woodrue...who, you know, canonically tortured and experimented on her. But why have Harley and Ivy in a healthy relationship when you can have Ivy working with her abuser and Harley fucking random dudes?
Like I was so excited, man. I saw initial screenshots and was like “OH MY GOD it looks just like BTAS except new and bright and sharp and she’s in her original costume!” and it’s such a let down to see them write crap that makes no sense and makes asses out of a bunch of the characters.
And people’s number 1 argument is “Good! They’re villains! They do bad things stop woobifying them!” But like, each of them has their own specialty of bad things. And just because they deem one thing acceptable doesn’t mean every single evil deed in the world is acceptable to them?? I literally saw someone say “Harley is a villain why are you surprised that she’s seemingly a sexual predator in this movie?” Because Harley’s NOT a sexual predator?? Just because she’ll kill a man doesn’t automatically mean she’ll be okay with sexual assault. Just because Joker would kill a puppy, doesn’t mean he’ll automatically agree to working with Nazis. Villains still live by their own moral codes. They’re twisted and skewed moral codes but they are moral codes. Ivy thinks it’s okay to kill a man but not a plant.
Stop saying “But they’re a villain!” to justify shitty writing. You can’t slap a villain label on a character and then reason they’re capable of committing every crime imaginable.
