whenever people make jokes like "haha lex is sooo obsessed with superman but clark doesn't care lex at all" i really just want to tell them to go read superman: birthright bc that is NOT the relationship AT ALL.

clark was straight-up ready to tell lex that he was an alien until lex blew up his own house with kryptonite and then disappeared, and you can really feel clark's heartbreak when things go sour.
