This weekend marked my VERY first TABLE Comic Book Convention!!!! Now normally in the past, I would just show up at Comic Con and wander around handing out my postcards, drumming up interest and basically doing publicity for my Comic Book series. I didn’t think I had enough material to warrant a table in the past BUT now that I have 5 issues out, I figured I have enough to start marketing a bit more. I signed up for a table at Stan Lee’s Comic Con!!!!!!! I asked for a corner table in the Small Press area and low and behold, I actually was set up in a corner table!!!! YAYA me!!!!!
Now this past month, leading into the Con, I have been slaving away, gathering my merchandise and staying up late to ready myself for my first Con. I even learned how to sew because I wanted to have Golden capes to sell. What person doesn’t want a Golden Cape???
How did my first Con go? AMAZINGLY Fantastic!!! Having a table is a hustle. You are trying to get as many people to check you out. You are calling out to them from far away and you are basically doing all you can to get them to buy all that you have to sell. I am a natural whore at the hustle! I enticed as many people as I could and then some. I even got yelled at by an insecure dick who had a table across from my table. I’m sorry if me saying hi out loud distracts your potential buyer from listening to your shtick, perhaps you should come up with a different tactic. Other then the insecure dick, everyone else around me was super nice. I even tried to get people to check out other tables while whoring myself.
I met some great people with connects. Cross your fingers they all work out! I even was interviewed! So exciting. I even acquired a stalker!
This guy, approached my table, the gold attracted him, or my butt. He seemed interested in my series but actually was more interested in asking me out on a date, which he did after coming back to my table. He asked for my number but I offered my email instead. He was a little bit of a creepier and I definitely was not attracted to him, soooo the email was the only information he was getting from me. Plus he didn’t even buy my book to show support, that’s a no no…. He claimed he is a nice guy but nice guys buy a girl’s book! I don’t trust people when they say they are the “nice ones”, in my book, it means they are actual jerks! We’ll see….
To close, I had a successful weekend, an Amazing Con. I definitely can’t complain. My series reach new audiences, new heights. The sky is the limit and my empire is being built!
