October 11th is National Coming Out day. I haven't been "in" for a while, and I've been open about my sexuality for quite some time. But even while I was working at JP's, I felt pressured to keep a lid on it for fear of being ostracized or even hurt by some of the less *ahem* kind folks who hung out there. Anyway, I realized I was #bisexual when I was 15 years old, and while it was a tumultuous and challenging time, I was also incredibly lucky to have a close knit group of friends that helped me realize it wasn't "wrong". I still felt uneasy about myself until my 20s, but it helped to have a support structure. Now, in the following years, I didn't have it as rough as many, for sure, but I still had to deal with people from within the LGBTQ+ community and without mocking me for being "confused", and once was run down by a car while having "faggot" screamed at me. So. Yeah. People can be just peachy. That's also why it's important to be inclusive and open. There are kids (and adults!) the world over who are struggling with what they are, being told they're a freak, or an abomination, or a sinner, who need to know that they're NOT alone, and they ARE loved. So whenever you, or someone else, says "I don't care what they do in the bedroom, why do they have to make a big deal about it?" That's why.
