I'm thinking about the Hawke pov bonus chapter from fbaa and how in it Jansen seems to genuinely care about the men under his command and be troubled about what they need to do to Rylan and seems genuine about hating the ascended for killing his family (which that part is probably true) but Casteel knows who he is! He doesn't have to be that convincing. He doesn't need to put on the act in that scene. (And I know it's probably just because at the time jla probably hadn't decided to bring Jansen back yet.) But it's just so weird to think back on that scene and look at with this new context and try and pick up on any hints
