I still can't get over Commander Putnam's last moments. I've watched the episode three times and the moments before and after he was shot continues to be a lot.
Imagine being a handmaid and seeing a commander that was shot in the head and hung on the way... Imagine being a rape survivor and seeing a rapist shot in the head and hung on the wall... Its only happened once before on the show, but how they handle rapists is easily my favorite part.
Anyway, there's no way his wife will be able to keep the baby. Ester wasn't their handmaid anymore, so the baby isn't their property. Plus, there's no way she can be a single mother, let alone a single mother to two children.
I get the feeling if all of this continues Aunt Lydia will be leading or inspiring a mass break out.
I have have thoughts on Nick and his new wife... I can't remember her name just yet, but her concerns were valid. Nick is a horrible man that has done many many horrible things. He is part of the reason Gilead exists. Sometimes I forget he's a leader and I continue to think of him as a driver even though its clear he was never *just* a driver.
I think his wife is on the right track... a lot, if not nearly all, of his behaviors bring a lot of questions to what kind of person he is. However, I think in this particular moment she's caught up in the emotion and gossip of it all? We might not all agree with killing rapists, especially those that rape children (Ester is around 13-15), but I don't think this is the act that makes him a bad person. I think he did what needed to be done. I'm sure if Ester's family was still around and this was... a "normal" situation rather than Gilead they would be thanking Nick... you know, right before he would be taken to prison for the rest of his life, but nonetheless.. it had to be done. Nick knows that. It makes me sad his wife doesn't, but again... there are so many bad bad bad things about Nick... she might be off this time, but she's onto something.
This was way better than just taking his other arm
FUCK YOU PUTNAM YOU GET WHAT YOU DESERVE
TAKE PUTNAMS OTHER ARM
Growing hands?
Commander Putnams’s hand grew back between season 4 and 5? That might not have been him hanging on the wall in an earlier post….unless these spoilers are designed to keep us on our toes?
