I’ll Be A Better Man Today
”Only Mages have that much power at their fingertips, only mages are so susceptible to the infernal whisperings of the demons.”
Words uttered so long ago haunted the Commander in his sleep, echoing within his mind. He had been so foolish back then. To allow his anger to blind him as it had.
He woke up with a start, a cold sweat dripping down his body, the stars and the moonlight reflecting down on him from his dilapidated ceiling. Another sleepless night it would seem.
Dragging himself out of his bed, his body fighting in protest, exhausted, despite his inability to shut down. Bare feet softly padding along, as he reached his armoire, Cullen reached for his armor, donning the heavy set piece by piece.
He needed to wear the full suit, at any time he was awake and functioning. He needed to be ready. Corypheus had taken Haven from them, he would not take Skyhold. Once he was ready, he made his way to the ladder and descended into his office. From there, he would open one of the doors and step out onto the battlements, inhaling as the cold mountain air bit at his face and filled his lungs. Comforting, as his mind spun with thoughts that were much less so.
“For all of the light that I shut out For all of the innocent things that I doubt For all of the bruises I've caused and the tears For all of the things that I've done all these years...
I’ll be good.“
(Inspired by Jaymes Young’s “I’ll be good”)
