I listened to this @thisweekinfandomhistory podcast episode today and they talked about fandom primers. That reminded me of a thing we did on Comment Exchange about five years ago where people could introduce their fandoms. I would like to bring that back.
You can find the fandom introduction posts from back then here.
You can introduce your fandom in a reblog of this post, make your own post and tag Comment Exchange or submit your introduction through the tumblr submission feature.
Please only introduce one fandom per post, but feel free to make multiple posts.
I will reblog your introduction post and link any works from that fandom we have on our masterlist.
You can find some suggestions on what your post could include below.
a quick premise of the source material
the most important characters and ships
what drew you to the fandom
what you like most about it
recs to your favorite fics/fanart/gifsets/meta
link some of your own works from that fandom
tag some of your fandom friends and mutuals if you think they might have more to add or want to introduce their own fandom
@yellowmagicalgirl @sobqjmv @oddgreyhound @emmalylis @circus-complex (if you would like to be tagged in future posts, fill out this form.)
Since it’s almost Chanukah, a holiday a lot of people celebrate by giving gifts to their friends and family, here’s a quick reminder that you can submit someone else’s fic to the Comment Exchange this holiday season! Here’s how it works.
1. Take a quick gander at the exchange’s rules. It’s all straightforward stuff, but here’s the tl;dr. Any fanwork with under ten comments is eligible, regardless of content or rating.
2. Choose a fanwork with under ten comments to submit. Make sure that the author is someone who would appreciate it! A fandom friend, perhaps. You can do this multiple times! The Comment Exchange limits you to five submissions per day.
3. Choose a fanwork to comment on. This is the “tax” you pay to submit a fanwork to the exchange. All works with under ten comments are fair game here, but the ideal way is to pick from works in the Comment Exchange AO3 bookmarks.
4. Fill out the submission form. This part is easy. It’s a one page Google Form.
5. Repeat up to four more times, or come back a different day and submit even more fanworks!
Happy holidays if you celebrate, and, as always, thank you to the moderator of the @comment-exchange account for creating such a fun, useful fandom space.
🎼🎶All I want for Yuletide is a comment on my fic!🎶🎄🎁🎅
Starting from tomorrow, throughout December, anyone who leaves a comment on one of my fics, I’m will read and comment on one of their stories too.
Fandom, characters, content, or length of your fic doesn’t matter. Everything is welcome. I have very few squicks.
If you take the time to read any of my writings and leave me a comment, I promise to read at least one chapter, or one-shot of yours, and leave a comment in return!
The whole point of this exchange is trying to re-capture the sense community we have lost, to uplift each other, celebrate fanfiction written by real passionate fans, and make each other smile.
Rules:
1 comment = 1 comment in return.
comment on any drabble, one-shot, ficlet, or chapter of a long fic.
comments can be anything - on the characterisation. On the style. On the plot. Quote one line you liked. Or just send love and thanks for being a real person commenting on fanfic.
No AI. Please do not feed my work into one of those infernal machines in order to generate a comment. Only real comments by real people are welcome.
No guest comments. I have them turned off, and anyway, how can I comment on your work if you are not logged in?
comments do not have to be long. They don’t have to be super detailed. They can only be a keyboard smash, or bunch of emojis if you like. The point is comment! Comments for everyone! By real people! Not bots!
I’m a very eclectic writer, there should be something for everyone here. Links to my works are below:
Mass Effect
Mass Effect: Absolution - my magnum opus. 21 chapters (two or three more in the works) canon-compliant oc companion fic that runs concurrent with the events of ME2, 3, and beyond. Canon levels of sex and violence, rated Mature.
The Dark Sentinel - 100 word drabble featuring my turian AI oc, Emrys. And he’s a real AI in the sci-fi sense. Not to be confused with the fake writing and art stealing machines that the tech-bros like to call AI.
Corda-Capta - Castis Vakarian/Adrien Victus, post ME3 - two chapters - Explict.
Depths of the Soul - Hanar OC/Human OC - one shot. Explict.
The End of it All - Garrus Vakarian/FemShep, post ME3 synthesis ending dark Shakarian. Three chapters. Major angst with a happy ending. Explicit.
No Data Available - FemShep/Legion, three chapters. Original edition complete with freaky body-shock robot sex scenes (inspired by matriculated) - or sfw edition that’s a little tamer. Explicit.
Friends with Large and Multiple Benefits - Wrex/FemShep - one shot. Extended Citadel dlc casino scene. Explicit.
Encounters with Archangel - two chapters of non-gender-specific reader-insert with our favourite turian bad boy. Explicit.
Goodbye, My Heart - turian oc, one perfect chapter of the ‘there was only one bed’ trope - non-gender specific reader insert, set during the First Contact incident. Explicit.
Starfield
In Silent Orbit - I’d forgotten that I wrote this one! Weird that I only wrote one fic for Starfield when I have spent so many hours playing, and have so many plot bunnies for this game. Oh, well. It’s a Yumi/Spacefarer fic, canon compliant. One chapter of absolute tooth-rotting romantic fluff. Rated Mature.
Legacy of Kain
The Darkest Heart - Raziel/Janos Audron, five chapters - dark, vampiric, enemies-to-lovers-to-canon-compliant-murderous-bastards, p-w-a huge amount of plot. Set during the Sarafan era. Explicit.
The Hollowed - very short, first-person one-shot, from the point of view of a human who has been a victim of the soul reaving wraith, Raziel. Explicit.
Ghost (The Band)
The Sundering - Cardinal Copia/Papa Emritus III, modern-medieval au take on the band’s split, set before the rise of Cardinal Copia to Papa IV. Ridiculously geeky, full of lore references, lyric quotes and rodent themed poetry. Features a jester-Special Ghoul (totally my favourite character). Three chapters. Explicit.
🎄Happy reading and commenting, and blessed Yule! 🎄
The Witcher Rarepair Comment Exchange is now open for signups!
Signups are open June 1st to 22nd, time to comment is from July 1st to 15th.
Please submit fics/chapters with a wordcount of no more than 10k, and no less than 500 words
Please take a moment to read the
Rules
You will be submitting your rarepair fic(s), and commit to leaving a comment on someone else’s fic(s). The event will match people based on fic tags and your preferences/DNWs.
Comments: Comments need to be at least 100 words long. Anything you quote from the fic doesn’t count towards that. If you want only to comment and not submit a fic, you are welcome to sign up!
Fics: Submit at least one oneshot/chapter with a wordcount of no more than 10k, and no less than 500 words. You can submit up to three fics so there’s a better chance to match readers and fics.
If you have participated before and submit more than one fic, please submit no more than ONE fic/chapter you have submitted before! If you submit one fic/chapter, it should be a new one.
Signups: open June 1-15
Signup via Google Form here
Matches will be sent out July 1, time to comment until July 15
If you have suddenly forgotten everything you like/don’t like to read, the Fisstech & Succubi Eskel Exchange has an excellent list to help you get started here
The rarepair must be the focus of your fic. We count everything as a rarepair with less than 1000 fics on AO3 at the time when you submit your story.
The pairing can be romantic or platonic/friendship.
This event welcomes darkfic, WIPs (the submitted chapter must be published on AO3), crossovers and OCs. As long as the fic is tagged correctly, you can submit whatever you want. The flip side of submit whatever you want is that we will not tolerate bashing of submitted fics.
If you end up paired with a fic that is in hindsight not your cup of tea for whatever reason, please contact the mods before commenting to be paired with another fic (there’s no need to tell us why). Don’t feel obliged to read material you’d rather not, and do not send the author negativity.
