Surprise! I was commissioned by the 1000xResist team not once, but twice! When they asked me to redesign their game's characters in my style, I was torn between Iris who had one of my favorite designs + Healer who I immediately wanted to redesign for reasons below. Graciously, they asked me to draw both, and you can see my Iris redesign here!

As for Healer, I always loved that she was the most relatable despite having the most face coverings of everyone in the game (in this post apocalyptic world everybody wears a face mask). My design fuses her qipao/cheongsam dress with cyberpunk elements to match her sisters and the world they live in.

I added a mesh cutout to modernize the silhouette and to match her sisters Watcher + Knower who also have mesh on their outfits.

Also nothing says futuristic fashion like belts everywhere. It's also a chance to add white buckles and details to break up the monochrome outfit!

Again, you gotta play 1000xResist - please buy it! It will change your life, especially if the Asian diaspora speaks to you and you're a fan of complex stories that make you feel things.

Beyond honored to be commissioned by the team behind 1000xResist, one of my favorite games last year! They asked me to redesign their characters in my style, but I'll take any excuse to draw the Allmother Iris! I love her ornate black armor, so I didn't change too much - I just wanted to highlight the detailing by redrawing it as gold filigree.

I mentioned this before but getting to add my little fashion twist to other ppl's character designs is a dream come true, so thank you again to Remy Siu and Sunset Visitor for the opportunity! If you're interested in a redesign commission, pls reach out - of course I gotta work on my game, but I'd love to make something work!

And please play 1000xResist, especially if you are a child of Asian immigrants. It's a game that quietly came out last year but has picked up huge traction and praise thanks to word of mouth. The best way I can describe it is "Nier: Automata with Asian generational trauma", and as an immersive visual novel the gameplay is more akin to a walking simulator with no combat, so I think anyone can pick up this game. I should include a disclaimer that the art is not as polished as Nier: Automata, but it IS a small indie team and for a debut game I still think this is fucking amazing for the story alone. Maybe because I am Asian-American myself, I haven't had a story hit me this hard since Everything Everywhere All At Once. I'm beyond floored to have been commissioned by folks who created something that moved me so much.
