The SRJH Drag Series Episode One Transcript
Hello darlings! And welcome back to the SRJH, I am Rubyyy with three Y's Jones and I am your host, thank you to Shoreditch Radio for having me for this episode of the show. Last week we were talking about Saving Your Rubyyy Jones and we spoke with BDSM practitioner Sir Claire Black and writer and star of Slap Alexis Gregory as well as some immortal words from the living goddess and queen RuPaul. I turn to this goddess now to open the song with our first song, it's RuPaul with Supermodel SONG #1 RuPaul / Supermodel Thank youuu RuPaul! What a wonderful way to begin this month's show as the first in my series of shows on everything DRAG! Each episode we'll be talking to different queens, artists, queers and academics about their points of view, their passions and their love of drag... This month I met up with some lovely friends of mine, thought we'd kick it off with some extra looove, and so I'll be introducing you to members of my family! This first interview is with Maxi, a drag artists, filmmaker and dreamer who I recorded on site in his new home; Maxi started a project a few months ago: to find a garden to live in and love in London. Dreams of a big pink tent, a glittery, growing garden and surviving another summer in the big bad city. She is the common garden drag queen, have a listen. INTERVIEW #1 Lady Tena Thank you Maxi! You can find her on commongardendragqueen.tumblr.com or on the hashtag commongardendragqueen and we will keep you posted about where you can donate, support and sponsor a drag queen this summer! This next song is Honey Boo Boo by Ab Soto and it goes out to Maxi and all the edgy edgy potato wedgy drag queens on the scene: Here we go! SONG #2 ABSOTO / Honey Boo Hope you enjoyed that you beautiful butch queens! Yummmmm and now some food for thought! I sat down with the lovely Joe Parslow of Queer (in) Crisis to talk about the blog and the crisis of drag in London. Apologies from Oscar for being so noisy but what can you do? He's a dog! Please enjoyyy... INTERVIEW #2 Joe Parslow Thank you so much Joe! I can't wait to have him back on the show again! Such a thoughtful and witty young man - I love him! You can find him and his fellows at queerincrisis.wordpress.com there's lots of brain food on there and it's worth a thorough peruse. A nothing young witty person coming up! Winning of RuPaul's drag race season four, the legendary, the spooky Sharon Needles. Sharon wrote this song as a young bullied boy, an entry in his diary, a wish sent to the universe to meet this creature he adored - this is the version from his first album PG-13 but I also encourage you to check out the live version featuring Amanda Lepore and Sharon onstage together; this album is available on itunes and this is I Wish I Were Amanda Lepore SONG #3 Sharon Needles / I Wish I Were Amanda Lepore How beautiful is that song!? And it's an amazing album, do support a queen and buy it! Speaking of queens who need money, I invaded London's premiere Drag Garden today and I brought along a half naked Miss Cairo for some fun. Miss Cairo is a genderbending burlesque and drag artist; a erotic award nominee for Performer of the Year in 2013, a Drag Idol competitor, Time Out's Rising Star Drag Queen 2013 and the supermodel of Norfolk! NOW I have to say and apologise, Miss Cairo used a word I would not condone using, she apologises in this interview and wants you to know she's very very veryyy prettyyy... INTERVIEW #3 Miss Cairo Hahaha Thank you so much Miss Cairo, you can find her on twitter @MissCairo_ or on FB as Miss Cairo Mascara or on a street corner near you! Also Maxi and Miss Cairo will both be at the Save Rubyyy Jones Revue, on July 19th, for a very draggy, dark, debaucherous show all about: Death! Do come along! Thank you to all my generous and great guests today for their support and speed, it was wonderful to start my drag series with you! I love you! And YES this is just the beginning of my exploration into drag, I'll be bringing you superstars, innovators, haters and chasers from the drag and tranny culture scene - tweet me @rubyyyjones to have your favourite queens on air!
