This Week In Events

Check out the 2015 Magic Community Cup this weekend! Meet the teams and learn the stakes! They’ll be playing Stipulation Draft with the online Legacy Cube, paper Battle for Zendikar sealed, online Ironroot Chef, and online Battle for Zendikar draft! Check out all the action at http://twitch.tv/magic this weekend and log in to collect your stakes based on the result of the event!

Modern Super League begins! Watch eight awesome Modern players battle in a double-elimination event to determine the Modern Super League champion. It all starts tonight at 6pm at http://twitch.tv/magic!

There’s an R&D Challenge Friday at 12pm Pacific! Magic R&D members take on all of you in a Modern battle. R&D will keep no prizes in this event. Instead they’ll be distributed to the 5-0 players. An excellent opportunity to test out some Modern and play against Magic R&D members!

The Standard League so far has been progressing well so we’re going to increase the cap on it from 1000 to 2000 players with tomorrow’s downtime. The feedback we’ve received on leagues so far has been overwhelmingly positive and they’re a great way to spread out your play rather than committing to an event for several hours.

Time Spiral phantom drafts start after Wednesday’s downtime! Note that this format is three packs of Time Spiral, not the full block. They will last only one week, so check out the full details on these events and join the queues!

Two Pro Tour Qualifiers are happening this weekend! The first is a Modern PTQ with prelims from Wednesday through Friday and the finals on Saturday at 9am Pacific. The other is a Magic Origins sealed PTQ with prelims from Wednesday through Saturday and the finals on Sunday at 7am Pacific. Good luck qualifying for the Pro Tour.

Community Cup!

I’m excited for next weekend’s Community Cup, where I will be serving in my usual role as head judge for the event. The Wizards team will soundly defeat take on the Community team in an 8v8 battle. And there are stakes!

If your champions on the Community team overcome all odds and pull out a victory, everyone who logs into Magic Online during the Community Cup will get one each of both the foil and nonfoil versions of each of the five full-art Unhinged basic lands as well as a foil and nonfoil verisons of the promo Thalia, Guardian of Thraben.

On the other hand, if the Wizards team obtains the expected victory, everyone who logs in to Magic Online during the Community Cup will be asked to Drown in Sorrow over the defeat.

Check out the participants on both teams, and tune in on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20 on http://twitch.tv/magic! Don’t forget to log in to your Magic Online account during the event to be eligible to get something based on the outcome! Play while you watch!
