HIW ARE U GONNA DEDUCT A POINT FOR ONE MISTAKE
english prof: i'm going to pretend you all read the story
entire class: *crickets*
english prof: yeah i know you didn't read the book. just bear with me.
scripts i read for honors comp 2 & my reports on them (and the grades haha)
6 plays total, a report for each on anything we want, & a final report overall
Antigone: i thought antigone was really good! it’s a greek classic by sophocles about a woman & i was just really into it. I wrote my report about mourning rituals of the time & the politics surrounding them & how it all related to religion & misogyny - 92%.
A Chaste Maid in Cheapside: literally unbearable. i read half of this play, the way it was written (both the early modern english & the amount of characters and plot) made it difficult to follow & frankly following it wasn’t worth the effort ! i couldn’t stand to finish it and there were not sparknotes. wrote about how sex was the backbone of the play in every way, the culture & religious context it was all in, blahblah - 94%
The Servant of Two Masters: I actually liked this one too! 18th century Italian play, it was interesting to read something from that time & place and then watch a live performance (watched this one, it’s great and they made some funny adjustments) and then read a little more about what the genre was before this - all improv basically by people who mastered the archetypes. it was hard to think of an essay topic & i decided to write about how Beatrice was a lesbian who Dressed As A Man as personal preference, i used textual evidence - 96%
Night of the Living Dead Live: this one was good! it was fun and inspired some good convos about zombies and i really liked a lot of the scenarios because they explored things that horror fans really wonder about the plot and the character’s decisions. our school theatre did a production of this right after we read it in class so i got to see that and it was SO good! i knew a couple of the actors and was very proud. i went with my mom and we laughed so much. i turned in my paper late (which should’ve lost me a letter grade but didn’t!?) and wrote basically a comparison of the movie to the play, what the play did differently, why, & whether it was effective - 100%
A Tempest: A Tempest was really damn good. of course it would’ve probably been more interesting if i’d read The Tempest, because i really had no context for the play and what it was criticizing except for what i read online. but it was about colonialism and how so often the colonizer won’t just..go home and life doesn’t get to return to normal. i would be interested to read other works by Aimé Césaire since I learned some stuff about his life & what he did for my paper, i wrote about him and about colonialism - 100%
Corpus Christi: i saw Corpus Christi live when i was 17 and i loved it so so much. apparently i loved it a lot more than my gay professor but maybe the way i remembered the production i saw just made everything click, idk. i wrote about holiness & being gay & what types of people, like jesus 2000 years ago, die young in the modern day. argued it wasn’t blasphemy & had a good message and helps me connect - 98%
Final Essay: i wrote about theatre and religion. i am so proud of this essay. i go from the origins of theatre as religious ritual, to classic greece to discuss Antigone and the greek pantheon and its political / religious commentary, thru Chaste Maid & the many times theatre was banned by the church up till the modern day & topped it off with Corpus Christi & talking about theatre as protest - 95%

Made a low-key reference to Taylor in the intro to my first writing project of my college English class
Mar-cole
After finishing up Percepolis, it brought more meaning to me than just a book on the Iranian Revolution. The events that occurred during her stay in Europe, without parents reminded myself of Nicole’s stay at college, without parents. I feel like Marjane’s own slip up in her plans is nearly identical to mine (Satrapi 247). Since being on the road to recovery for the last month now, reading about Satrapi’s shockingly similar experience of young adulthood confirmed me steps taken to normal Nicole once again. Now reading her mistakes and internal conflict, it makes me feel I don’t know... not alone. I felt like she was my younger sister following in my same mistaken footsteps and provides me a basis of near nostalgia. Thoughts like “Oh yeah, I remember that event/feeling/shame.. haha thank goodness I’m over the hurdle now”. This novel has provided a sense of comradery. Seeing Satrapi endure even harder.. hardships is a sense of hope for me. I can begin to think thought such as “at least I didn’t get too far off the tracks” or “hey, it could be worse; you’re not the monster your mind depicts you to be”. Aside from the illegal aspects; the relationship with Markus brought to light some of the suppressed thought I’ve thought of my significant other. She reports distance, constantly fighting for affection, noticing the one substance that once bonded them is suddenly pulling them apart, etc. (Satrapi 227). Comparing these events to my own gives me a sense of hope, advice, and I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. Reading those parts of this novel was like I was revising another student’s rough draft. Picking out unnecessary things (thoughts), revising other words (THOUGHTS), deleting a few things (T H O U G H T S), and overall absorbing her information to help apply them to better my own paper (thoughts.... and actions). Marjane Satrapi has become a role model of mine since first cracking open this book. Seeing where she is now ignites a new fire within me. I got this.
