Context:
I'm (probably) going to take college courses this summer and fall, and I get to choose which language to study. The choices I'm interested in are: ASL (American Sign Language), Japanese, and Spanish. I can only pick one :(
I'm already fluent (or close to fluent. It's my first language, but I'm better in English now) in Spanish, but in the Peruvian dialect. I could take a test to show my fluency and then automatically receive the credits, which is what I plan to do, but they'll be using the Spain dialect (*choking and gagging noises*) which is different and difficult. If I pass (and even if I don't), then I could a.) still study Spanish anyways, which is a bit redundant or b.) study one of the other options.
For Japanese, I've been learning it for almost 3 years and can fluently read Hiragana and Katakana and 1st Grade Kanji, plus some others. I understand some conversational and school-related Japanese since I lived there for 2.5 years. I'm planning on going back to visit in a year for about two weeks, so I wouldn't be able to practice much, but it would still be nice to continue it. My Japanese teacher was a French-Italian guy from the south of France who learned Japanese as his 5th language (French, Italian, Spanish, English, then Japanese) and I aspire to be like that. I have no idea what level my peers would be at though, so it could either be a really easy course or a really difficult one.
I learned the ASL alphabet when I was 5, but didn't pursue it much afterwards. I'd absolutely love to be fluent (or at least have a broader vocabulary) in ASL, and I started studying on my own about a year ago via an ASL vocab book, but didn't really get far since I don't have an actual teacher. I think I could be at least decent in it. And it would also be fun to have a way of communication that doesn't involve talking. This way I could teach my baby sister and she could communicate her needs before she learns to talk, which will take longer.
So the question remains: Which freaking language do I pick? Just pick for me at this point lol. and no I can't flip a coin, those only have two sides
Pick a language for me to learn, since I can't choose all of them
Spanish, get better in grammar/writing and the Spain dialect
Japanese, (hopefully) learn more Kanji and vocabulary
ASL, learn more in general
I'm bald/See results/I like pushing buttons/Etc
