You're a teacher? That explains a lot tbh because you have a good vocabulary and have an englishy teacher vibe
I am! I work full time as an educational technology developer administrating different technologies for things like checking for plagiarism (which I hate but it’s my job), managing our content repository, updating the University website, and handling some of the smaller softwares that don’t currently have a home on campus.
In my spare time I adjunct as a composition instructor. I teach composition studies to Freshmen at my small public university (12k students) which serves a large rural population, lots of first generation college students, and is one of the least expensive universities in the nation. We’re currently heading toward a goal of being a Hispanic Serving Institution, and globalization is a consistent part of our mission. I teach comp with the understanding that composition is a middle class enterprise and that in order to be successful in the university, all students must be able to grasp the basics of composition studies. A lot of what happens in my class is discussions of privilege, of language, of cultural codes, and of what makes someone a writer.
Though I regularly get frustrated with both my jobs, I wouldn’t want to do anything differently. In my position right now, I can actively affect the system for the better from the inside.
