being disabled (specifically having a diagnosed stutter), and being extremely extroverted and opinionated, is SO funny, because ALL of my 4 electives this year are:

Musical Theater

Speech and Debate

Student Council

and Cafeteria Aid.

NOW what do all these have in common? If you said constantly speaking, you would be right !! Especially with speech and debate, which prides itself on fluency. I may be cooked this year, but I’m cooking in style </3

ANYWAY no I am not doing more speech therapy to change how I speak, I was diagnosed at age 9 with a stutter and went thru 2 years of speech therapy, 5 years later and it has barely gotten “better”, but idrc because I make important and valid points, and just because of my disability DOES NOT mean they shouldn’t be heard </3

THIS DOES MEAN I HAVE TO EXPLAIN TO THE JUDGES AND TOURNENMENTS THTA I HAVE A DIAGNOSED STUTTER AND TO ASK THEM NOT TO TAKE OF POINTS FOR NOT BEING FLUENT </3

guys should I take middle english or language teaching as my final elective

consider: i am a linguistics and ancient history major who plans on staying in academia and working on old languages — point for middle english

also consider: what if all that fails and I need a real practical job in the real world (shudder)? — point for language teaching

but also consider: the language teaching course seems to have a lot to do with teaching strategies/classroom management and like. I was a language student myself for five years and i worked as a tutor for more than two so i feel like I know how to do that and I'd rather not write essays about it — point for middle english

yet consider: middle english is another linguistics course and im already required to do eight other ones for my degree. so maybe it would be better to branch out? — point for language teaching

consider, however: i literally did astronomy (and aced it) which i feel like is branching out quite a bit so been there done that — point for middle english

consider as well: middle english is a stage three course, while the language teaching is stage one, so *should be* significantly easier — point for language teaching

although consider: i have found in my experience stage three courses aren't necessarily harder than stage one, they just require greater foundational knowledge (and tend to be marked only a little tougher because they expect more nuance), and some stage one courses I've done are a bit painful in terms of sitting through tutors explaining the basic things you learn at the start of university to all the freshers in the tutorial, meanwhile the lecture/tutor for middle english pretty much knows every single student who might take that course and always skips past the admin — point for middle english

(I could continue... currently I think I'm more inclined towards MidE but maybe someone sensible just needs to tell me to do otherwise)

Electives in Voldemort's era

In Voldemort's tives available in Hogwarts were "Ancient Runes, Alchemy, Dark Arts, Magical Theory, Care of Magical Creatures, Muggle Studies, Magical Customs and Traditions, Basic Healing Arts, Arithmancy, Divination, Wizarding Law, Muggle Law, Business Management, Warding, Ritual Magic, Enchanting and Elementalism. There were also a couple of Music and Art classes. Magical Theory and Magical Traditions and Customs were core classes for the first two years and changed into electives from third year onwards, though, and they weren actual O.W.L. subjects so they were... extras, you could say.

There were two kinds of classes, actually. Warding, Ancient Runes, Ritual Magic and Business Management, for example, needed at least a 75% attendance rate, but the others didn't and could be passed by simply doing the exams and completing the homework. Brandon - advanced first aid - given the amount of times he and his friends get injured and are in life-or-death situations, Brandon decides it will be a good idea to learn a little bit more on how to help them and himself survive the next missions. Weaponry - making them, using them, anything about them.

Sky - home economics (mostly cooking) - the guy would starve if it weren't for his friends always taking care of him. Living all his life cuddled in a royal palace hasn't helped him learn simple things like that. Most of the royals at Red Fountain, Alfea, and Cloud Tower take these kinds of classes. Also politics and inter-realm relations (like Aisha, Stella, and Bloom) 'cause, you know, king to be.

Riven - spell casting - Though untrained, Riven had the potential for magic. Saladin recognized it and highly suggested he took magic classes as an elective. He wouldn't admit it for the world, but he enjoys them as much as hand to hand combat. Teamwork - but that's a secret. And he's threatened all his classmates: if they tell any of his friends, he'll make their lives hell. Of course, Timmy has hacked Red Fountain's system to know which is Riven's second elective and has told the other guys. But Riven doesn't know they know.

Timmy - hand to hand combat - since Timmy is Technomagic expert of the group, he is not always required to participate to the others' training sessions, which results into him being a bit behind. He makes up for it with these extra lessons. Public speaking - he hates every second of it, but Flora has suggested him to attend it, and he hopes it will make his life (and especially his relationship with Tecna) easier.

Helia - foreign languages - Helia is a pacifist, likely a future diplomat. Learning new languages will help him in his travels and in writing his poems. Psychology - to try to better understand the people around him, to teach them to use their words and not their swords.

Nabu - technomagic - he knows absolutely nothing about it. The guy doesn't even have a phone, just using his magic to deliver messages, so Timmy forces him to take it. History of Magix - the guy's such a nerd for house crests, battles and so on.
