Powered by a 1493cc single-overhead-cam straight four dry sump engine, and twin Horizontal SU carburettors. The aluminium body was mounted on a separate steel chassis which had beam axles front and rear with semi-elliptic leaf springs. 4-Wheel drum brakes, mechanically operated at the rear, and by cable at the front. Introduced at £ 650 in 1933, the price was reduced to 595 for 1933. The cars were offered as 2 seater with a 102 inch wheelbase or as a four seater with a wheelbase of 120 inches. According to the standards of the early 1930s, Aston Le Mans were speedy cars – compared to the pace of the MG and Singer- with a top speed in the region of 85 mph (137 km/h) and acceleration from 0–50 mph (0–80 km/h) in 16 seconds. Chassis Number D3/252/L Is one of the most recognisable of the model, featuring on the cover of the Osprey Automotive book Aston Martin 1913–1947 by Inman Hunter, photographed in full flight at a race circuit. It has also been campaigned and maintained by Ecurie Bertelli since 1986. It was supplied new to a Mrs Armstrong of Hethpool in Northumberland in 1933, finished in tw0-tone grey and fitted with a four seater body specified with a twin exhaust pipes, an extra door for the rear seats, an outside hood, and a special 6:1 final drive ratio.
