an odious occurrence in oda is when we learn that torse knows of the prime disruption. comfrey is the one who mentioned it to him.
he says, "It was at the heart of research that she believed she had mistakenly left at the Temple of Katur."
as far as he believed, it was "powerful, theoretical science, true cosmological research into the nature of these lands."
she brought it up when he brought up the feeling that he as a zernian had in the lands of zood.
he is proud of his homeland and he remembers his homeland wasn't always overcome by the queen and "her Primarchs*".
(*while we might have been of the assumption that "her Primarchs" means they belong to her and follow her orders, we have since learned that is not true. they are "her Primarchs" in the way people have parents. the way horses have riders. they are her guides. they are her conscience.)
torse tells the crew, "Zern was always a hard place, but not always an evil one."
he experienced bitterness upon coming to a place of excess plenty, wondering why life would be so good here and so hard where he'd come from, feeling as though this was a great punishment.
and comfrey was the one who said "perhaps there was not meant to be punishment. perhaps there instead had been some disruption."
we know torse joined comfrey's team after the temple of katur was lost to the sea. every single person they've come across since leaving tabira city has known about the temple of katur. about the legend of it once being in the sky.
we also know torse is of the belief that the queen of zern is from zern.
we know the queen of zern is ludmila ryczanek. perhaps his understanding is that she's been around since before he was made, and she is the queen of zern, of course she's from zern. where else would she be from?
or perhaps it's the other answer: that she's from zern because her "body", the one she sends flying on the back of her winged beast, and the straka itself are built from pieces of zernians. perhaps he believes she is from zern because the queen he has witnessed is made of zern.
anyway, i think my theory here stands.
to expand further, i think comfrey was directly involved with the prime disruption, and she doesn't want to tell torse the whole truth.
comfrey doesn't like telling the whole truth, because often times, it makes her look bad. she strives for perfection, and she can't stand to be the cause of tragedy.
this is reflected in the way she was directly involved in ludmila becoming the queen of zern, and didn't tell marya the whole truth.
this is reflected in the way she insists that nothing in the past is ever her fault.
