Decent Lovers - Compromising Young Thing
In this day and age of disposable music, you know you’ve stumbled upon a winner when you wake up with a song playing over and over in your head. Well, it’s either that, or the fact that you played that song 47 times before going to bed the night before. We wrote about Decent Lovers B-side, Collided in May last year. In the months since then, they’ve obviously been getting busy having fun and writing more awesome experimental pop! Their most recent release Compromising Young Thing is actually a song that’s been kicking around singer/songwriter Elijah Wyman’s repertoire for a few years, taking on different incarnations. It was finally born as the song that dug itself so firmly (and charmingly) into my subconscious. With a little collaborative help from his talented friends he puts together a whimsical and boisterous track using electric Autoharp (there is no guitar at all), bass, vintage moog synths and drums. Elijah tells me that the hook "Funny how I saw you, but never saw you..." is about the concept of looking for one thing while finding something else unexpected. He says, “I like juxtaposition, so I liked the idea of mixing lust and devotion too”. Whatever the inspiration, it sure beats the hell out of an alarm clock!!!
