Emine Vance, 29, ravenclaw alum, Ozge Gurel FC, CLOSED.
Birthday: July 4 Blood Status: halfblood Gender & Pronouns: cis-female, she/her Occupation: Senior Auror Sided with: order of the phoenix
personality
Positive Traits: Adventurous, Bold, Daring, Competitive Negative Traits: Reckless, impulsive, can’t say no Summary: She is unafraid of conflict, incredibly competitive, but is also rather honest and direct. She doesn’t walk around on egg shells, and says it exactly as it is. She is rarely conflicted on what she wants, and from a young age has known and understood wrong from right. She throws herself into her work, both at the auror office, and in the Order. Whilst some might fear getting hurt Emine doesn’t. She fears little, and this does sometimes cause her some grief.
Her weakness if often that she is addicted to that sense of adventure, and she jumps at every opportunity. This sometimes ends up with her being stretched, and she really should work on her self-control of not needing to be involved in every single case. But she has an amazing ability to defend herself, and she makes up for her over stretching by being pretty amazing at her job.
She can sometimes be prone to being a little reckless, but often backs this up with her book knowledge. She might be a little reckless, but she can back this up with her magical ability tenfold. She’s had to really work on acting from a calm place, but this is something that has come from years of working as an auror. She can sometimes be impulsive still, but she does try to contain it now.
growing up
Emine Vance was destined for greatness. She was born in Paris on a hot summer’s day. She was never supposed to be born then. Her parents were two renounced Aurors, who were on an international mission. Her mother was barely 30 weeks pregnant, and yet Emine decided that that was the day she wanted to be born. Emine Vance came kicking and screaming into the world. And suddenly her mother had to sit, and be with her. It was a hard transition, especially with Emine’s father having to go back to England for work. But eventually, six months after her birth, Emine was finally brought home to London, and apart from school, that is exactly where she has stayed.
Despite her parents both working pretty much full time as Aurors Emine had a great childhood. She spent long periods in Diagon Alley, or at home reading books. She wasn’t a huge social person, but she loved spending hours in her books. She could escape the life around her, and just go on so many adventures. One could say that it was her love of reading that set about a love of adventure for the young girl. And so, when she was old enough to go to Hogwarts, well she was so ready.
Emine sat on the stool, the sorting hat on her head for what felt like forever. It was only 10 minutes, but long enough to be considered a hatstall. The sorting hat was struggling to pick between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. Whilst Emine was brave, and adventurous, she was also extremely intelligent, and creative, with a huge streak for learning. It was that that ultimately persuaded the sorting hat to put her into Ravenclaw. In that house she found her home. Emine took to Hogwarts like a duck takes to water. So many books were opened to her, so many different subjects, and learning opportunities. Emine was in her element.
There was no real surprise with the career path that Emine Vance chose. With both of her parents serving as senior members of the Auror Office, there was no real surprise when their daughter followed in their steps. Her parents had been on missions all over the world and were much loved in the community. Emine had grown up listening to their stories and watching them do all they could to eradicate any darkness in the world. And that was exactly what Emine wanted to do.
during the war
Straight from Hogwarts Emine went into the auror program. And she excelled. It was no surprise to her. Emine had never struggled with anything in her life. At least academically anyway. The one thing that she did struggle with, both when training to be an auror, and when she’d qualified, was her desire to take up every opportunity. Her hand was up every time, volunteering for every mission. She had a work ethic that made her want to do as much as she could. She’d never done enough until all the bad guys were in Azkaban. This lead to Emine having a bad habit of stretching herself thin. She always did a good job. She was amazing at her job after all. But, it meant she worked a lot of overtime. People often joked that she lived in the office, and she practically did.
Of course, she also had to push herself to get out of the shadow of her parents. She didn’t want to just be known as their daughter. She wanted to prove herself. She knew some of her colleagues thought she’d gotten the job because of her connections. And whilst, part of that might have been true, Emine was a bloody good auror, and she was determined to prove it. Even if that meant over-working herself and concentrating on nothing else.
When Dumbledore stood on her door, inviting her to join the Order, it made sense. She was making good at work, but sometimes, it didn’t feel like enough. Sometimes it didn’t feel that the ministry was doing enough. And the Order made her feel that she was doing a little better. And so she agreed to be Dumbledores solider. It felt good to be doing something. To be fighting for what she had believed was right.
Emine knew what people thought about blood purity, and she thought it was ridiculous. She was half blood. Her grandmother was a muggle, and yet she was probably better at magic that most of those pompous purebloods. She was proof that having pureblood did not mean everything. And she would fight against anyone that was trying to say that she was not good enough because of her blood status.
And so Emine dedicated her life to the fighting. When she wasn’t on a mission with the auror office she was on one for the Order. Her entire life was the war really. And it gave her a thrill, a sense of adventure that she had never had before. And she adored it.
no time like the present
All the fighting was worth it. Because they had won. And Emine had come out unscathed. She didn’t quite know how she had manged it. Emine was incredibly reckless in battle. She had no significant other. She had no children. She had no one to really miss her if anything happened to her in the war. And yet, she came out with barely a scratch on her. For that she is grateful.
Her pride is a little hurt though. When Dumbledore took over the Ministry, and ousted Moody, she had been certain that she would be a shoe in for head auror. She’d dedicated the last decade to her work as an auror, putting it above everything else. If anything, Emine could have been described as putting her life on hold for her job, and for Dumbledore. So, she was pretty much expecting to get the job.
But then the Longbottoms were attacked. Emine was in fact among the aurors that attended the scene and apprehended the death eaters responsible. She felt for her colleagues, especially when they had three little babies. But she never expected Frank to pip her to the post. For him to jump frog her and get the head auror role. She was older than him, had more experience than him, and frankly Emine thought she was better at the job than he was. But he was head auror and she wasn’t. And Emine was bitter.
The blow hurt more than she had expected. She had never become an auror with the desire to be in charge, but she really thought that she had deserved it. It didn’t really change how she felt about her job. Being an auror was such a huge part of her identity, and she still had so much good to do in this world. So, she carried on. She went into work every day. She held her head up high like she wasn’t bothered that Frank was head auror, and not her.
But she hears the whispers. She sees the cracks. She sees that maybe the world they’d fought so hard for wasn’t really coming true. That Dumbledore wasn’t really the leader she had once thought he was. She should have guessed that when he’d picked Frank over her. But Emine hears the whispers of rebellion, and she finds herself interested.
And maybe, she needs to realign herself. For the greater good, and to make sure she comes out as successful as ever.
connections
Gideon Prewett - Friends since Hogwarts, there was something a little off the last time they ran into each other. The hug didn’t feel nearly as warm as usual and there was a fleeting moment where Emine could have sworn the expression was one Fabian usually wore. It couldn’t have been Fabian though, not with the disappearance and believed death of another close friend having been widely reported...
Dirk Cresswell - The pairing that Hogwarts would have expected to marry’s ship never set sail. They were friends and nothing past that - just the occasional habit of getting into each other’s space and having once drunkenly ended up in bed together during the war. Nothing to read into and nothing serious.
Mundungus Fletcher - The bad influence. Mundungus can be blamed for Emine learning to let loose and venture out to bars. They know enough to keep Mundungus at a distance but that doesn’t stop them from seeking them out for a good time.
