Summary: James is the kind of man everyone wants to be around, he is the one that is always the life of the party and is always offering a helping hand. He is quick to judge and thinks he knows better than most, but he has learnt with time that his gut is not always right and he needs to be more open minded. He used to be one of the most mischievous of his group, but life hard lessons have made James grow and mature. Hoping to be a good father and husband.
James Potter was born to Euphemia and Fleamont Potter, an elderly couple that wished for nothing but a child. This made him be the most spoiled child ever, however, with elderly parent James lacked a bit of companion of his own age.
He had a few scattered family members, and he learned so much talking to the portraits on the walls at Potter manor, but what he enjoyed the most was learning from his parents, the people that encourage him to be and do whatever he wanted, explore within safety boundaries, and just expand her curiosity in many things.
The only strong opinions that James grew up around with was: Slytherins are the worse of the Hogwarts houses, they think they are high and mighty and adore dark arts. Probably something to do with his father rivalry with the house since his school days.
And always judge a person for their actions, not anything else. Which it might be somewhat colliding, because everything seemed great and dandy, until little James Potter found some Slytherins and no matter what they did, they deserved every bit of terrible thoughts he had to offer.
The Potters tried to be the best parents for a rampant boy like James, and he was spoiled, and well bread, which led him to be prideful and obnoxious at times. But deep down James had learnt the most important thing and that was the love you had to extend the people around you.
Meeting the boys was like destiny, Sirius seemed like his better half, always knowing what to say and do, they almost didn't have to speak to communicate. Then became Remus, at first quiet, but wise beyond his years, and so wittily funny that had James cracking up. And last, but not least, Peter.
Peter was a wild card, at first James would think they were just friends because they were roommates, but the longer they lived together and shared their school life with, the more he become to love Peter and he funny stories, and ideas for the jokes they played on people. Peter was smarter than people gave him credit for, and James thought that maybe he could make Pete see that, as he sometimes felt his friend doubted himself. Little did he know how much this would impact both of their lives.
The war came while he was at Hogwarts, and rumours about it reaching the walls of the castle were too many. He knew Dumbledore would protect them, that things will improve eventually, that the grown ups would figure it out and they would get to keep being kids for a little longer.
However, James found himself being wrong, the war reached them, even if not physically. The things that happened behind the castle's walls were beginning to be dark and far from innocent to be ignored.
He never felt he had much chance to change things, more than hexing the ones causing harm, but then he became Head Boy.
The Gryffindor was no stranger to authority, he had been captain of the Quidditch team for a while, but this was different. First, he believe he had broken some sort of record of being the Head Boy with most detentions, and second, he actually had ideas that he wanted to change. That he wanted to make students feel safe again at their school.
What he didn't expect was the change that came with his attitude. After years of fancying Evans, they finally saw eye to eye on things. He thought he had at least managed to be on the friendly side, but what surprised him was that they were more than that by the end of the first trimester, and even more so by the end of the school year.
Leaving Hogwarts was though, he wasn't leaving just walls and classrooms, he was leaving his childhood and a second home, where he found his new family. However, it was time to move on and do the right thing.
Joining the Order was a hard decision, he wasn't sure if someone so inexperienced could be helpful, but aside from that he wasn't going to be sitting on his arse while other people fixed the world. It was up to him and his generation to face the wrong things in the world and fix them, letting the other side that they wouldn't stand for that injustice.
The war was hard on everyone in different ways, but it brought wonderful things as well. Harry was a blessing neither him nor Lily were expecting, it was something they saw each other have at the end of the war, where things were calmer. But looking into those green eyes, James knew, that it was all worth it.
That was until it was almost all taken away by a treason that broke James' heart. He couldn't believe when it happened, he still had a hard time thinking about it, he thought that maybe they didn't see how hard it was on Peter this whole time, when they were running in all directions trying to safe the world and have a productive life that didn't involve the war.
It has been hard to see how the treason chipped his remaining family away, but he has to be strong for them, to keep them afloat, and remind them that they still had each other.
No time like the present:
James thought it would be helpful to become a healer, first because Remus needed someone that cared about him and actually knew how to heal him after full moons, but then he really loved the idea of fixing people and making them feel better.
He tried not to drag to much attention to himself, yet his passion for Quidditch ended up making him the healer for the Quidditch League, a job that was not only rewarding, but allowed him to be with his family.
He won't say it out-loud but Dumbledore's actions seem more suspicious by the day. After Peter he has learned to keep an eye on everyone, making sure that he is not missing the hidden agendas. He hopes he is wrong about his former Headmaster, but the road and decisions seemed to say otherwise.
Regulus Black - The surprising acquaintance that only recently entered James’ life. The two get along nearly as well as James and Sirius do with the only regret having been not trying to get the youngest Black sibling into the friend group sooner.
Hestia Jones - Hestia served as a distraction from Lily, with the two dating briefly before James cut Hestia out altogether and ended up seeing Lily. It’s been over five years since James simply stopped acknowledging Hestia’s existence. Feeling embarrassed about never apologizing has had James in no rush to make amends.
Doris Purkiss - When it came to marrying Lily, Doris was the one to give James a stern talking to about treating Lily right or facing consequences. If it weren’t for knowing how serious Doris can be, James would have tried laughing things off. It was something James would have expected to come from Petunia but Doris was more protective of the then future spouse than Petunia ever would have been.
