Long ago, when the land still spoke in the tongues of tree and stream, and the Tuatha Dé Danann walked freely across the green hills of Éire, there lived a goddess named Éiru.
She was one of three sisters—Ériu, Banba, and Fódla—each a spirit of the land, each a queen in her own right. But of the three, it was Éiru who walked the Beltane fields barefoot, laughing in the rain, weaving blossoms into her red-gold hair.
She was the land made flesh. The curve of her hip mirrored the soft hills of Connacht. Her breath was the wind that teased the barley. Her voice carried the rhythm of rivers.
Each year, on the first eve of May, Éiru emerged from her sacred hill beneath Uisneach, the spiritual centre of the island. The fires were lit high, and the cattle driven between them. The people gathered, hearts open, eyes shining with the promise of renewal.
And each year, Éiru would choose a king.
Not a ruler in the sense of iron or war—but a consort of the land, one who would walk beside her, tend the fields, and honour the sacred bond between earth and people. This was the banais ríghi, the marriage of king and goddess. Without it, the land would grow cold. The rains would withhold. The people would hunger.
The choosing was not simple. It did not depend on strength alone, nor wisdom, nor beauty. The goddess tested each suitor—sometimes with riddles, sometimes with a kiss that burned like the sun, sometimes with silence so deep it echoed eternity.
One year, no suitor pleased her. The fires smoked. The fields withered. The druids trembled. “Why do you not choose?” they asked.
And Éiru replied, “Because the men seek the crown, not the land. They want power, not partnership.”
She vanished into the mist, and the harvest failed.
The following year, a young man named Conall arrived at the Beltane fire. He did not wear jewels or fine cloaks. He came with dirt beneath his nails and sap on his palms. He had tended the sick sheep of a widow on his way and missed the first lighting of the flames.
Éiru saw him and smiled.
She approached in silence. The crowd hushed.
She said only this: “What do you love more than yourself?”
And Conall, not knowing who she was, answered, “The land that feeds the people. And the people who remember the land.”
She kissed him then.
The skies opened in a sudden rain—a sprinkling, soft and silver, washing over their heads as if the sky itself approved. The hawthorn tree bloomed out of season. The fire blazed higher.
And Éiru crowned him with a wreath of clover and rowan. The first Green King in three generations.
Together they walked the spiral of the Beltane rite. She, the May Queen, the spirit of the land in her full flowering. He, the willing guardian, humble and strong.
The crops that year were abundant. The cattle bore twins. And it is said that the rivers themselves sang his name for seven nights.
From that time on, no man was crowned without first kissing the earth. No woman wore the Beltane crown unless she had first dreamed of roots.
And Éiru?
She still walks the hills at Beltane.
Her laughter rides the breeze.
And on rainy spring nights, if you kneel in the grass and close your eyes, you might feel her fingers crown you in clover.

Fanart I did last year for conall my favorite cursed wolf (redraw of that picture where he's in the woods surrounded by the other cursed animals)
{Before I sleep, have the main 3 and bonus 2 OCs for this blog; Assassin was made first, then Retriever, and then Miss Dunning. Arcanist and Holly Belle (who will be under a cut as she's a winter fae/faun who doesn't wear clothes and just has a massive bunch of fluff to cover her chest) were made between Retriever and Miss Dunning, but I don't use them for main storyline/lore or as often
first is Assassin in her regular and full cover gear, there's multiple reasons for the poncho and the mask is standard combat uniform for her, so she does wear the mask when on the field
Assassin is also the one entered in the TF2 OC Contest via my main, @cherry-blxssxm-chaos !
then is Retriever and Wally. Wally is both a combat and service dog for reasons I'll blab about later. he's an extremely good boy, well behaved, and highly protective of Retriever. likewise, harm Wally and Retriever will not hesitate to show you why he's part of a mercenary team
if it's not obvious, they were heavily inspired by the concepts for the 10th class
Miss Dunning is meant to be both similar to and a foil for Miss Pauling. she wears combat boots and a leather jacket, but also the ultra fashionable sun hat. she carries a giant wrench both to help fix anything around base and to bash heads in to make a point. She comes from a Moonshiner family, and is no stranger to warfare, be it from the sidelines or on the field. Miss Pauling is probably very glad to have her around to help keep the Mercs in line
Arcanist was going to be another class, but I think I'd much rather use her as a seasonal/holiday OC for Scream Fortress. No, she's not blind, but she can see spirits wherever they are, magic as it's being cast and used, and has a knack for fortune telling and reading your past. Her gatling style crossbows are inspired by the 2008 Van Helsing movie, and what's a good witch without her spell book and some essential magic items?
Borra x Healer Human Reader
Masterlist
The day Maleficent grew her thorn wall, Y/n was wandering the Moores, learning more and more about the herbs that grew there. To their luck a few fey hid Y/n in a nearby cave, far from Maleficent, and far from any human conflict. As years passed the cave became a simple cottage, and as Y/n's knowledge of medicine grew, so did the cottage. Tall, vast, to small tiny rooms to accommodate for both Y/n and any creature that fell into their care. From above the cottage looked to be an extention of the mountain, and all fey who knew of Y/n swore to keep them a close secret.
•You knew about the mysterious fey patrolling the Moors, but you'd never met them. All you knew was that the fey looked like Maleficent, several patrolled at the same time, and who was patrolling changed throughout the night and from day to day.
• The night you and Borra met, Borra had caught himself in an altercation with humans outside the wall. He managed to kill each one, but in the process received many injuries, and broken one of his wings. He'd known he couldn't fly back to the nest, and alerting the others was to high of a risk, so he hid himself in the Moors, unaware of your cottage being so close.
• You had stayed up late that night brewing recently harvested herbs, some of your scouts dragged in the unconscious fey. From there they took him to a room as you grabbed supplies for his wounds
• it wasn't until after the adrenaline wore off that you realized, this was the most human-like being you've seen in years. It left you quite stunned, you had to leave the room, and then promptly hid in yours to cry, you didn't miss home, but so many years living isolated, it was quite overwhelming.
•Borra was quite confused when he awoke. He remembers falling asleep in a cold, rocky cave, not somewhere soft and warm. The bandages did help calm his nerves, but he was still greatly confused on how he got there, who could've brought him there, and why the house looked like a human one.
•From both tending to the mysterious wounded fey, and taking care of the harvested herbs, it was almost morning by the time you fell asleep. You didn't even make it to your room, but instead a nearby couch.
• Your slumber was soon interrupted. From your perspective, all you saw was a shadow, with horns, and wings, shaking you. To him, you where a strange human asleep on the couch. In short, you got a great scare, and Borra got a new bruse.
•After several minutes of you apologizing and Borra trying to shrug it off, you'd found yourself sitting on the couch and him in a nearby chair. Borra was quick to take advantage of the situation, demanding how he found himself in your cottage, and why you where in the Moores. You on the other hand, felt overwhelmed, and struggling to stay awake.
• You require for him to let you answer the first question, and then answer the second question after a long nap. And looking upon your current state, he agreed.
•So you told him what had happened, you where storing and cooking some herbs, when suddenly a few of your scouts, you made sure to specify which ones, came inside whith his unconscious, wounded body, afterwards you took him to a room to tend to the wounds.
• Afterwards, you almost immediately fell asleep, preventing Borra to ask anymore questions.
•It was late morning when you visited Borra. While refreshing his bandages, you held up your promise and told him why you lived in the Moores, how you why you first started visiting it, what happened after Maleficent grew the thorn walls, and how the fey helped keep you hidden.
•Because of the broken wing, Borra obviously couldn't fly, he couldn't move it either, es with the bandages. So he spent hid day helping you, determined for answers, there was no way a human could be so kind and innocent, there was always some ulterior motive, it frustrated him that he couldn't find any proof for his theory.
•You found Borra's company welcoming, he was quick to grab anything out of your reach, and carry heavy and large amounts of items, he caught you when you fell, he even helped you clean. But it was weird having him around, before meeting him you did nearly everything yourself, and almost never spoke to anyone, not to mention, his near constant glaring, without the wings and horns, he looked human, oh how long it had been since you saw another human.
•Borra had informed you that he'd be meeting up with a few fellow dark fey, and you assumed that meant he was returning home. Informed, you walk into your living room to find him and four other fey staring in your direction.
•You immediately made up and excuse to leave the room. Wthout giving them a chance to respond, promptly ran for your bedroom, and hid in the closet. You where scared, four fey in perfect health plus Borra, all of which presumably had the same power as Maleficent, and none of them looked happy.
•It was awhile before you where found, and it wasn't Borra who found you. In desperation you clawed at his arms and screamed, demanding him to get away. He then quickly spun behind you, covered you mouth, and wrapped an arm tightly around yours. You hadn't realized you where crying, nor did you realize he was trying to reassure you, he had intended no harm, none of them did.
•When you had finally calmed down, he introduced himself as Conall, and slowly walked you back to the living room. During the walk, he informed you that they are dark fey, they do not wield the same power as Maleficent, why they don't live in the Moores.
•When the both of you reached to living room, he sent the fey waiting there to fetch the others.
•Upon their arrival, they fey immediately held council, trying to decide what to temporarily do to you until a proper meeting can be held. The only reason they required you to stay in the room was because they didn't want to risk you running away, and so you could answer the occasional question.
•By the end, they agreed to let you stay, but Conall would stay with you, mainly because he was the most peaceful and kind in the group, until they knew what to do.
•Without even a goodbye they left. A few days later you where informed that you could continue life normally in the Moores, but every night a fey would vist, if they found anything of suspicion, you'd be taken to the Nest or dropped off at a random kingdom.
•Several months had passed before you saw Borra again. He replaced the fey that checked on you every night.
•It started off quite awkward, but as time passed, he warmed up to you, he even began telling you more about healing techniques. He eventually started bringing you flowers from the Nest, he'd help set them up in vases around the cottage, and would even teach you about them. You had taken it as a friendly jester and nothing more, how could a fey fall for someone apart of the same species that slaughters his people.
•It was the nights where he sat down and told you stories about his battles, or fun memorable moments in his life, that you enjoyed most. It surprised you that someone as powerful a beautiful as him was single.
•It frustrated and confused Borra to no end that you had been so blind to his hints, he wanted to tell you, he really did, but he was scared, how could a human fall for a monster. He knew he wasn't one, all humans seemed to believe he was.
•One night, the both of you curled up together on the love seat. Borra had been so caught up in his story, that it wasn't he finished that he noticed you passed out. That was his breaking point. You looked adorable curled up against him, he never wanted the moment to end. It was that moment he decided he would confess, wether you liked him back or not, he couldn't hold the secret back any longer. So, he carried you to bed, flew home, and spent his free time trying to gain enough bravery to confess.
•That bravery never came. He couldn't even look you in the eyes. It was so bad you began to fear for him. When you forced him to sit down and look you in the eyes, he confessed. It all came out at once.
•Of all the things to happen that night, you definitely weren't expecting that. I took several long moments for the words to register in you mind, and many more for you to register what they ment.
•He liked you back. It played in repeat in your head, before finnaly, you rushed forward and hugged him as tight as humanly possible. He did the same.
•Soon after all the heartfelt confessions, Borra requested you return to the nest with him, obviously not thar night, but in the near future. He just got you, and the idea of you getting hurt, especially with tensions between humans and the Moores so high, it made him sick.
•You denied. You lived alone in the Moores for so long that the idea of not only leaving, but living somewhere you've never been, with people you know nothing about, you don't want to relieve your first years in the Moores. He didn't push any farther.
•Over the year, Borra and you only grew closer. Sure there where some rough spots, but you wouldn't change it for the world.
•By the end of your first year together, you finally took up his offer and moved into the Nest. It was a slow process, you had requested you spend at least the first week relatively alone, and then slowly get introduced to the other dark fey.
•It took awhile to get used to the new environment, and Borra had to fly you back to the Moores on many occasions because of how bad the homesickness would get. You did eventually settle in, you made friends, learned more about healing, and you felt more free than you ever had. You no longer had to hide from the outside world, and you had an amazing boyfriend who flew you from place to place, grew beautiful flowers, and held you tight.
