Conclave Tarot Deck - Minor and Major Arcana
I will try and do basic sketches for all of them, but most likely will only do a few linocuts. I'll start working on designs tomorrow.
Hope, faith, promise, renewal after darkness. A new direction and changes for the better.
The Star "symbolizes the breakthrough of cosmic consciousness, the oneness with all." But also the survival of terrible life challenges.
No aspects of the reverse reading apply to Benitez.
First Reversed: cold emptiness, feeling unloved, creative block (Has God forsaken him? Inability to pray..)
to Upright: emotional awakening, new feelings, great love. Symbolises the start of a new relationship. Creativity, intuition, and spirituality.
The card traditionally depicts God's hand holding a chalice, with a white dove holding the host, and five streams of waters pouring forth, for the five senses.
It's the card of self insight, in the Cup series which is concerned with inner states of being.
Upright: self-evaluation, awakening, renewal, purpose, reflection, reckoning. A card of change. Fulfillment. Inspiration. The call from within.
Reversed: self-doubt, lack of self-awareness, failure to learn lessons, self-loathing
In his case I feel elements of both really apply. He's also the one to stand and call for Tedesco to be ashamed, casting judgement where Thomas wouldn't.
(Depicted reversed!) Arrogance, impussiveness. A manipulative bully, overbearing and dominating. In reversal it's the worst qualities of fire, which the king of wands embodies: selfishness and ruthlessness.
Upright it's an ambitious, attractive, honest, fiery person, busy and full of life (The Tedesco we dream of). Still authoritative, expressing willpower, and going all out for an ideal, even with brute force.
Tremblay - King of Pentacles
(Also reversed!) Instability, gambling, failure, greed. Someone who makes poor financial decisions, is chauvinistic and exploitative.
Upright it's a practical and productive person who works hard. All about Status and Wealth. A provider associated with craftsmanship. Surely the image Tremblay likes to project.
Disaster and sudden change, chaos, trauma. "A great cleansing to body and spirit. Evil destroys itself. Every form of conceit comes to an end. It is a card of difficulties, of change, breakthrough (but to the positive)."
"You must start again", as Thomas says after the truth has come out. Though Adeyemi sinned gravely long ago, he's not cast out like others, gets to call Tremblay Judas. Which goes with this quote about the Tower being "a dramatic experience, but in retrospect a liberating one."
Sabbadin - Knight of Cups
Upright it's a tactful, diplomatic negotiator. Happy, sincere and intelligent. Charming and idealist. An intuitive dreamer who has a sensitive nature.
Reversed it represents tantrums, moodiness, vanity, and avoidance of conflict. Emotions take too much control, inability to take action.
Sister Agnes - Knight of Pentacles
An industrious, practical, reliable, and efficient person. Stoic, hard-working and committed. A teacher, who utilises practical knowledge and skills. Providing order and regularity. Caring.
Reversed it can be a workaholic.
Discovery. A planner who makes decisions, searches for knowledge and waits for results. But also a card that warns of possible stagnation.
Reversed it's about overanalyzing, avoiding risks and playing it too safe.
Sister Shanumi - Six of Swords
This card can mean "unexpected journey". It's about departures, leaving things behind and circumstances changing for the better. Both an actual journey, or an inner change. An acceptance of lessons, the act of moving on.
Reversed it's about returning to trouble, being stuck in the past, being trapped.
This also seems to work with her arc through the film, though she's trapped and forced to confront her past by Tremblay and/or THL.
A major Arcana for a minor character... The Hermit is about self-reflection, introspection, contemplation, withdrawal, solitude, and search for self.
In reverse it's about loneliness, isolation, being an anti-social recluse, but also returning to society.
As it's about trusting in one's own strength, it parallels well with Wozniak's introspection and self doubts that led him to break his promise and speak up about Tremblay, followed by his walking out of the Vatican as the doors shut behind him, isolating him from the life he'd led at the Pope's side.
