Pop Up Gallery: Working Class Artists
Curated event by Dani Schmidt
Featuring local New Hampshire artists at the Bit Lounge on Main St in Concord, NH
The concept was to gather a plethora of different creatives including musical talent to display their work
“The idea for the theme came to me after reading a few editorials in the Concord Monitor. They were commenting on the state of the city's art. Mostly they were lamenting over the galleries that have recently closed but mostly it was positive, saying that the state of the arts in Concord is healthy. I kind of disagreed because although there are really cool sculptures all over town now and a new theater is opening up, a serious problem still exists. There is no place for working class artists to be seen or heard. It seems as if you need to be a student or an established artist or retiree that has money to have a venue for their work. Artists that are working 40+ hours at a day job and still creating work are the voices that need to be heard. We need art from the 99% for the 99%. “
With this in mind we proceeded in a two day event held February 1st and 2nd, 2019 with a total of 10 artists displaying a multitude of progressive and expressive works.
