Yesterday my toddler said “I love you, Mama” for the first time. Today she brushed my hair.
We’ve had a kind of rough fall (pun intended), but this is the stuff that melts my heart. Trying to hold on to this feeling.

Yesterday my toddler said “I love you, Mama” for the first time. Today she brushed my hair.
We’ve had a kind of rough fall (pun intended), but this is the stuff that melts my heart. Trying to hold on to this feeling.
My house is a cacophony of lullabies, cartoon banter, and endless breakfast requests, both verbal and preverbal. I find myself wondering if the monsters in A Quiet Place are beleaguered parents who held it all in too long and then imploded when one polite plea for the next episode of Magic School Bus sent them over the edge.
Am I making my kid feel the tension I felt unwrapping my snack in that 2018 movie theater?
Either way, sitting in near silence watching a horror film sounds so relaxing right now.
It’s too early for all this. Bring on the redbull.
(Have not seen AQP2…because who has time for movies right now. No spoilers!)
Due to the pandemic, we have had no baby visitors. She hasn’t gone anywhere, no one came to the hospital, and only my husband and I have held her. The confession? It’s been great!
I am now flabbergasted that we think any new parents ever want to see anyone while they’re in the hospital or anytime soon thereafter.
I just want to stay right here, not even pretend that we’re on a schedule, and feed her whenever and wherever she wants without having to worry about who’s around to feel uncomfortable about my boobs.
When Sweet P pops off after nursing, she has this way of smacking her lips, once and loudly, that has a clear ring of “compliments to the chef” to it. It’s my favorite thing ever.
It's a slippery slope
From bed sharing to pack and play sharing on vacation...to crib sharing on a normal Monday evening. #confessionsfromtheglider #confessionsfromthecrib?
Our parenting "philosophy"
We have chosen: breastfeeding, bed sharing, and baby led weaning.
So, if you had to label our parenting style, what word would you choose?
Here’s the secret. The right word is, for sure, “lazy.”
I mean. Parenting is hard any way you slice it. So why not choose the path of least resistance, y'all? Who wants to spend their time prepping bottles, spoon feeding mush, or walking down dark hallways at 3 am if you don’t absolutely have to?

Who is that?
I actually think that sometimes when the infant portraits I keep on my desk catch the corner of my eye. M already looks so unimaginably different from those first heady days. Sometimes the only way I feel like I *know* he's the baby I grew is when he kicks his chubby little legs straight out in front of himself and into my stomach. All night long. Just like the third trimester. "Oh, good. It is you." What a weird thing to get nostalgic over. #confessionsfromtheglider
I know it sounds cliché
But it feels profound. "It" being basically all of my thoughts these days. Such as: (In reflection after D asked me about something from high school) "Man, doesn't that suddenly seem like a lifetime ago? I don't know if it's just the lack of sleep or if it's something basic about becoming a mother, but my own childhood seems to have zoomed into the past to make room for these current long days and short months." #confessionsfromtheglider #actuallyoutoftownandreallymissingtheglider
