Loyalty
Lagertha’s head had been spinning when she first heard the news. Björn would never lie to her, she was sure, and that could only mean one thing...
Ragnar had truly been unfaithful to her.
The shieldmaiden couldn’t begin to wrap her head around why, why her husband had done this. She’d been afraid for him when he left, felt the threat the Seer had explained to her, but surely, this couldn’t have been it?
As blindsided by this as she was, Lagertha decided she needed to talk to someone she knew, someone she trusted. Not only because she felt incredibly conflicted on what to do about this, but also because really... she didn’t want to have to go through this alone.
In the end, she’d chosen to speak with someone who knew Ragnar, who was trusted by him, as well as by herself. She hoped that by doing so, it wouldn’t be someone Ragnar would be angry with her for telling.
Should Lagertha care that he could have been angry? Well, there again was her conflicted spirit.
She had sought out Athelstan for the task, knowing him to be both trustworthy and wise, and as such had just approached him. With a deep breath, she decided to just... get this over with.
“Athelstan,” she greeted quietly. “Could I speak with you privately for a moment? There’s a matter of... great concern, I could greatly use your assistance with.”
