Highlights from Pete Hegseth's Confirmation Hearing for Secretary of Defense • Hegseth paid a woman to make sure she did not file a complaint of rape against him. • Hegseth refused to directly answer the question regarding being drunk at work. • In June of 2020, president Trump directed his secretary of defense, Mark Esper, to illegally shoot peaceful protesters in the leg. Esper refused. Hegseth was asked if he would comply with such an order. Hegseth evaded the question and refused to say whether he would carry out an illegal order given by the president. In other words, Hegseth left the door open to commit crimes for Trump.
