Customer, with a thick north-African accent and a scowl on her face: ... there is a tax on food?

Me: yepp there's sales tax *as politely as I could say it*

Customer: .... *offended look* on food?

Me, confused: ... yes..?? There's sales tax for everything we sell here--

Customer: no there isn't

Me, clearly living a lie for 26 years: .....

....... kay

Customer, adamant she is right: I have lived here for 40 years I've never seen a sales tax on food

Me, 1000% done with my shift: .... I'm sure.

Customer in line behind 1st customer: where are you from?

1st Customer: HERE *offended voice*

2nd Customer, also confused: oh alright

1st customer: *pays for her VITAMIN SUPPLEMENT (not food) plus tax and leaves*

so, my name is a little unusual but not altogether uncommon

most people have heard my name before, and only get confused by the way mine is spelt

but anyway, this customer has never heard it and is rather confused. so I repeat it for him, he says it back wrong. I repeat it again, and this goes 3 or 4 times but he says it right in the end. he then asks how its spelt. and after spelling it out himself he goes to pronounce it again, and SUDDENLY theres a freaking W sound in there somehow!? like, no!? theres no W, you said it right a second ago, you even spelt it correctly, where did that come from!?

So like??? A woman was describing a carafe to me and she goes, "like those things you pour wine out-qait you don't drink do you." Like, she knew it, she wasn't asking she just was like, oh dear how else am I gonna explain this to you and I'm like??? Apparently I don't look like I drink at all I guess???

Does anyone know of a sandwich shop that serves anchovies?

Me: hello what can I get for you? Customer: I guess I'll have a steak an cheese. Me: Alright and what kind of bread would you like that on? C: how the hell would I know that? Me: all out bread is right here in front you. C: guess I'll have it in cheese. Make me one with everything on it but non of any fish stuff. Me: pardon? C: no fish Me: fish? C: yeah no know anchovies and stuff like that Me: we don't server any anchovies C: good That was just a bizarre interaction all around. In all my time working for the sub shop I've never even heard anchovies mention? Or heard of anyplace that has them.
