Another important addition to our international membership, Saint Ngeli Mbembo from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Mbembo's ceramic work is uniquely expressive, blending familiar ceramic techniques and materials with tendencies and sensibilities visible in both traditional and contemporary African art. The artist's simplest works are defined by their compelling sense of form, color, and pattern. The more complex pieces, in a very compelling fashion, do not offer closure or conclusions but instead provide multiple points of visual exploration with a palpable sense of instinctual urgency.
