Next up on Conjunction Recordings comes an immersive new offering from its founder, Catalyst.AD, backed with a breezy remix from in-demand Ipswich native Conrad Subs.
Having made a name for the fledgling label as a home for high-quality productions across the bass music spectrum, the London-based DJ/producer has personally turned in all three releases on Conjunction since its inception earlier this year, with each showcasing a different string to his bow.
First up on the new release, “Systems of Change” kicks off with airy plucks and bluesy piano riffs, which give way to punchy drums and gritty, drawn-out basslines to make for a simultaneously soothing and hard-hitting aural experience. Centred around a reverberating vocal sample which encourages listeners to “use love and compassion as our guiding principles”, the track offers up a wholesome message during difficult times, adding to its blissful serenity.
Meanwhile, Conrad Subs’ contribution wraps up an unbelievably busy year for the rising star, which has seen him release his debut album Tides as well as a slew of EPs on coveted labels including ProgRAM, Dubplate Dread and Nuusic. Tackling “Too Far Gone”, the flitting liquid closer from Catalyst.AD’s recent EP Coming Home, Conrad pares the track back to its base elements, honing in on its lurking basslines and mesmeric sweeps to provide a minimal, yet equally exciting spin on the track.

Catalyst.AD is an artist who’s already been widely recognised by the drum & bass community through his ‘Coming Home’ EP. After receiving critical acclaim from Red Bull, his success was noted by his widening fan base. He’s now ready to unleash his ‘Off the Chain’ EP, a follow up which will once again reidentify you with the producers sounds. From the beginning to the end, the ‘Off the Chain’ EP pulls you into a dancefloor orientated package which will surely have ravers ready to go back to the nightclubs. With a rework offered by DJ E, who’s spent nearly three decades working within the drum & bass world, especially within its darker trenches, his background at Rude FM and Kool London has enabled him to come under the radar of Conjunction Recordings. The imprint set itself a path to deliver the most cutting edge underground bass music that the scene has to offer. Despite not being genre specific, the EP presented from Catalyst.AD gives an unforgiving insight into what the label has at its disposal. The title-track ‘Off the Chain’ is a dark, driving number which takes you through the motions as it ducks and dives between every layer of percussive texture. Next up comes the rework from DJ E, who revamps the selection through his own lens, giving it his own unique flavours. Following suit is ‘In the Shadows’, a growling piece of music which would stand pride of place within any DJ set. Then finalising the EP is ‘Law of the Jungle’, a record orchestrated through its punchy drum work and bass, whilst manifesting at a lower tempo. The EP demonstrates what Conjunction Recordings is about. Only providing the absolute best which their scope has in their reaches whilst presenting a brand-new label to the masses.

Label founder Catalyst .AD kicks it all off with the long awaited “Coming Home” EP in collaboration with the amazing talents of animator Simon Vella to bring you a melodic bass heavy dubstep track along with a suitably themed animated video experience which brings the whole project to life. The initial idea for this spawned from the amazing record breaking achievement of Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner and the Red Bull Stratos Dive. Witnessing this fantastic achievement inspired Catalyst to begin writing a chilled dubstep style track based around the theme of the Space Dive. The track itself begins with a calm build up in the introduction which is layered with uplifting guitar melodies over some simple but hard hitting drums that lead the listener through the ascent into the stratosphere. The introduction then reaches a climax and concludes with Felix's famous speech as he prepared himself for the record breaking descent back to earth. An epic drop then rolls into a chilled but uplifting sub-bass fuelled track that aims to transpose the amazing views from space and take you through an epic musical ride. The E.P then takes you through three further tracks with a different “Lost in Space” mix of the title track, a more dark and minimal take on the track with classic jungle break beats and dark synths lead you into the mysterious depths of space! Next up us the deep and sinister Drum and Bass track “Deception”, a dark, liquid style roll-out infused with spaced out fx, sinister vocals and a rumbling bassline to round it all off. Last up is the dreamy, blade runner – esque “Too Far Gone”, a melodic liquid drum and bass stepper, filled with with lush pads, dreamy vox and a nice deep synth bass to shake the speakers.
