I am not a coffee lover since, I have a slow and abnormal heart beat. That’s why I ended up using coffee to be part of my beauty regimen. I alway love my “Morena” colour and to enhance it, I use coffee granules as part of my scrub, which can help detox my skin from impurities and maintain my “morena” colour.
But, my husband and kids love coffee so much that whenever we go out they would buy coffee on coffee shops. I allowed them to take coffee, but not that strong coffee, I let them take the frappe which have less coffee.
Yesterday, It was really a privilege to meet, Eric Lim, a young COO of Conlins Coffee Company, he is a licensed coffee Q grader. They are launching their premium instant coffee made from special micro-ground roast and named it, Lily’s by Conlins. What I love about the concept of the store is that the name Conlins is derived from his father and the newest premium instant coffee, Lily’s is his mother’s name. Eric Lim, wanted his new premium instant coffee to be part of every Filipino memories, it is as if when you sip you’ll be transported back to memory lane. His coffee is inspired by his memories at home.
There are 3 variants of Lily’s by Conlins, The Royal Latte which I can say that have a heavenly taste of sweetness from honey, The Cocoa is an ultimate indulgence for chocolate lovers and lastly, The Cappuccino which very creamy, light and abundant in cinnamon.
“ Lily’s my Conlins is actually a tribute to my late mother. When I was child, I would excitedly make breakfast and whip up a cup of coffee for her. Of course, it was just instant coffee. But the special, simple act of mixing coffee with milk and sugar felt like such a grown up thing. Until today, I remember those moments with fondness. Coffee became an opportunity for us to bond” Share Eric Lim, yesterday.
I think every cup and sip of Lily’s Premium Instant coffee will surely excited our palate to have an instant coffee, but a premium one. It is also a sip for bonding and memory lane. Lily’s by Conlins is available in 250 grams tins and priced at P350. You can buy it at Greenbelt 5, Coffee Lab in BGC and the Coffee Laboratory in Ayala Center Cebu.

GIGA 5 brings barista quality home
On 2 September 2011, Swiss coffee machine expert JURA will be presenting its latest product, the GIGA 5, at IFA in Berlin. Developed by the innovation leader in automatic speciality coffee machines, based in Niederbuchsiten, the GIGA 5 sets new standards of professionalism, perfection and precision. The new machine has features previously seen only in professional models. In short, the GIGA 5 brings barista quality home.
Emanuel Probst, CEO of JURA Elektroapparate AG, is enthusiastic about the company's new product: "The GIGA 5 heralds a new era. Aimed at the super premium segment, it is intended for home use yet combines the most professional technical features with unique design."
The epitome of quality – doubled
The GIGA 5 is packed full of technical innovations. With two ceramic disc grinders, two heating systems, two high-performance pumps, two flowmeters and two fluid systems, the new flagship in the JURA fleet can even serve two speciality coffees at once. What's more, the virtually noiseless grinders operate independently of each other, so you can add different types of coffee beans to each container to create your own personal blend. All it takes is one touch of a button.
For the classic caffè latte, which is enjoying a resurgence in popularity, the GIGA 5 has a feature previously seen only in coffee bars or restaurants. Thanks to some ingenious engineering, the coffee and milk flow into the cup simultaneously to create the ultimate caffè latte. The sophisticated yet intuitive operating system, with the "turn-and-press" Rotary Switch, makes it quick and easy to prepare other speciality coffees too.
The multi-award-winning manufacturer has also raised the bar when it comes to the design of the GIGA 5. High-quality materials are combined with precise craftsmanship to create a pure, minimalist design that focuses on clean, simple lines. One eye-catching feature is the Venti Ports, the striking ventilation slats which work together with the electronic fans to pump warm air out of the machine and let fresh air in, because the double systems produce both steam and heat. Harmoniously integrated into the top of the machine, they are reminiscent of a classic sports car.
The GIGA 5 will be available last quarter of 2011 in select Jura retailers in the Philippines
Latte macchiato
Espresso with warm milk and milk foam. Latte macchiato or ‘spotted milk’ has three layers: A bottom layer of hot milk, a top layer of frothed milk, and a layer of espresso.
Ingredients
45 ml espresso
Milk and milk foam
1.5 cl flavoured coffee syrup or 4 cl Baileys (alcoholic)
Preparation
The ratio of ingredients for this coffee speciality is two thirds milk and milk foam and one third coffee. As milk is more dense than espresso, the coffee floats on top of the milk.
Add a little flavoured syrup or Baileys to the latte macchiato glass, if liked.
Prepare a latte macchiato.
Serving suggestion
Latte macchiato glass
Napkin
Long-handled spoon

It is also my pleasure to share with you my personal tasting notes during my 2011 coffee expedition.
Karnataka G1 Washed Arabica:
As an espresso. Honey-sweet aroma with notes of dark chocolate. full-bodied mouthfeel with thick sweet reddish crema; hints of floral and citrus brightness with long, rich, flavor-saturated finish.
Recommended for pure espresso drinkers, smooth straight shot and an opportunity for devotees to sample a pure, unblended single-origin espresso.
Bolivia Top Primera Arabica:
Medium Roasted Sweet lemony citrus and flowers overlap notes of brown sugar and lush almond in aroma and cup. Fine, crisply fruit-toned acidity and lightly syrupy mouthfeel. Deeper nut-toned flavors carry into the long, bittersweet finish.
A good choice for those who enjoy an intensely aromatic and mildly bright breakfast cup.
Peru HB MC Arabica:
As a Fullcity+ Roast this coffee is Indulgent, intense and pleasing aroma: hints of cherry fruit and milk chocolate. Gently balanced acidity and casually syrupy mouthfeel in a very sweet-toned cup with continued suggestions of cherry-toned creamy chocolate. Some chocolate persists in a clean, straightforward finish.
Recommended for those looking for a gentle Delicately crisp, pleasingly cherry-toned coffee with impeccably pleasing aroma.
Colombian Supremo:
Complex sweet medium-roasted character in aroma and cup: deep, rich, dark chocolate with citrus top notes (lemon, grapefruit), cedary midtones. The fine aromatics are complimented by a heavenly finish.
Due to the high demand of Colombian Supremo. Colombian Coffee was very scarce during most of 2010 and still remains one of the most sought after coffees in the world. We were truly fortunate to be to be able to secure this lot during our travels.
Recommended for Lovers of high-grade Colombian coffees with Balanced, sweet character with a full range of flavor and aromatics.

Nitrogen Flushed Packing: In Pursuit of the Perfect Cup of Coffee
Dear Friends,
I’m excited to announce that our unending passion for perfect cup of coffee has lead us to another advancement in our coffee packing technology. To ensure that the coffee we deliver to our clients is at it’s freshest; Conlins has built a nitrogen-flushing process into our production line.
Nitrogen is a non-reactive stable gas that will not produce any reactions to food products; it is food-friendly, has no flavor, color or other molecular content that would cause unwanted effects on the coffee. When used together with a one-way valve, the nitrogen molecules pushes the oxygen molecules out the packaging, because Nitrogen’s molecules have a larger diameter than oxygen, the coffee beans freshness and flavor are preserved for a longer duration of time.
Nitrogen renders the CO2 given off by the coffee inert thus significantly reducing the coffee’s aging process. Under normal humidity and temperature conditions, a sealed package that has been nitrogen-flushed will preserve coffee for up to 12 months or more.
Conlins Coffee World Inc, who has recently been accredited with ISO 2200, continues to bring continued innovations and advancement to bring you the freshest and the best coffee beans available.
Sincerely,
Michael Harris Conlin
President
Conlins Coffee World Inc.
Coffee Freshness- Why is nitrogen flushing important?
The rate of coffee staling will depend upon the amount of contact with oxygen. Conditions of heat and added moisture will accelerate staling. Moisture-resistant sealed packaging with a minimum of oxygen content is the key to coffee shelf life. Studies have found that In the presence of oxygen, coffee stales rapidly: whole-bean coffee within a few weeks; ground coffee; with its greater surface area, even more quickly.
The air we breath is composed of 20% Oxygen so when coffee roasters seal their coffee with out nitrogen flushing bag of coffee will have still contain 20% Oxygen. By using a combination of a one-way-valve and Nitrogen flushing we can effectively expel the oxygen in our packaging to almost 99.8% oxygen free.
