ANNOUNCING: OPEN CALL SELECTED PROJECTS

Following an open call looking for a strong mix of projects in live performance, visual art and from creative institutions which drew close to 200 applications, we are excited to announce the 13 projects selected to our larger British Council Connect ZA Arts Programme for 2017.

The applications were strong and diverse across the countries and in art forms, the selected projects were chosen in an extensive and challenging selection process with a panel composed of British Council advisors from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Scotland and England.

All projects connect creative communities in the UK and ZA through New Partners, New Projects and New Spaces. We invite you to participate in the projects and events over the next year both online and offline.

REMANI LOVE DOCUMENTARY – SOUTH AFRICA TOUR IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BRITISH COUNCIL CONNECT ZA: - Creative Nestlings in partnership with the British Council Connect ZA presents a series of talks around filmmaking featuring British filmmaker Remani Love. Remani Love Documentary Project is an independent documentary exploring the concept of self-love, personal growth, and identity through insights from eight women of varying ages. Founded by Remani Love who wrote, directed and produced the short film. Read more about it here

‘ThrowBack to last year’s CascadeZA 2014′

Kazim Rashid of Warp Records (UK) takes over Joburg & Cape Town

British marketing pro and DJ, Kazim Rashid, is in South Africa for a six week residency to learn and exchange across the fashion, lifestyle and music sectors.

British Council Connect ZA, Livity Africa and Black Mango have collaborated on Kazim Rashid’s ZA takeover.  After thoroughly enjoying his first visit in 2014, Kazim returns to spend time in both Johannesburg and Cape Town, to share his creative practice and experience by connecting with the local scenes. 

Last year, Rashid visited South Africa as part of the British Council Connect ZA ‘Creative Futures’ project, in association with Live SA and part of the Fak'ugesi African Digital Innovation Festival. 

Kazim is a renowned A+R consultant, scout and music manager. When not releasing records, Kazim can be found running boutique marketing strategy and production agency endless-love-show, which specialises in video content for fashion and music brands. Most recently, Kazim joined the creative agency, PROTEIN as Creative Director.

Kicking off in Joburg, Kazim is collaborating with Livity Africa, and is based at their inner-city office space in Braamfontein.

Working with the Breathe Sunshine African Music Conference, Kazim will engage with music makers and promoters in the Mother City and Joburg. He will participate in two workshop panels, and features on the main line-up of speakers at the Breathe Sunshine African Music Conference in Cape Town, on September 2015. 

Kazim co-runs THE LOVE BELOW/somethinksounds – labels specialising in soul futurism. Having spent the last four years living in Berlin, he moved back to London to take the position of Head of Marketing for the UK, at seminal electronic music imprint Warp Records, with whom he still works with today in a limited capacity.

3 September: Emerging Promoters Panel by Breathe Sunshine African Music Conference ft. Kazim Rashid  - I/ZA @Ithuba, Johannesburg (FREE)

As part of InnovationZA, Kazim Rashid features alongside upcoming Joburg promoters, in a relaxed environment, to openly discuss the problems facing the industry. The focus of the event is to learn about the challenges in a local context while exchanging ideas towards positive industry growth.

26 September: Bridges for Music Mentor Sessions ft. Kazim Rashid – Guga S’thebe, Langa, Cape Town

Bridges for Music Mentor sessions feature music industry people sitting down with with upcoming producers, artist and promoters who share their experiences, and gather possible solutions for the future.

30 September:  Emerging Promoters Panel by Breathe Sunshine African Music Conference ft. Kazim Rashid – Cape Town

Kazim Rashid and upcoming promoters from Cape Town will gather to discuss the problems problems facing the industry. The focus of the event is to learn about the challenges in a local context while exchanging ideas towards positive industry growth.

30 September:  Brand Music Strategy Panel by Breathe Sunshine African Music Conference ft. Kazim Rashid – Cape Town

Featuring various top ad agency representatives, brands who engage in the music space and artists who run brand communication agencies will join forces to create workable strategies for upcoming music promoters.

To celebrate our exciting line-up of events from February through to April, we are running a competition with a twist. If you find yourself at one of our music programme events over the next three months, you could stand a chance to win a pair of double tickets to the next event by simply telling us about it.

Confused?

Here is how it works, for example, if you are attending #CTEMF and want to stand a chance to win tickets to the #YoungFathersZA tour all you have to do is:

1) Like us on Facebook OR follow us @Connect_ZA on either Twitter or Instagram.

2) Then post pictures on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram from the event but make sure to tag #ConnectZA AND #MyExperience. The more pics you post, the greater are your chances to win a pair of double tickets to our next awesome gig.

 Terms and Conditions:

· Winners will be selected from all image posts making use of the #ConnectZA and #MyExperience tags simultaneously while at British Council Connect ZA partnered events during the period 2 February till 31 March 2015.

· Participants stand a chance to win 1 double set of tickets.

· Participants only stand a chance to win tickets for an event in the city where they reside or their chosen city where they will be attending the said event. This competition does not include any transport or travel costs.
