Connor Hanwick - After Ur (Green House)
released January 31, 2020
Connor Hanwick released his debut album, ATMWorld, under the moniker Dondadi in January of 2018. It was one of my favorite albums of the year. Two years later Hanwick has released the follow up, After Ur, this time under his own name. And the distinctions between the two albums are profound.
Said to be inspired by improvised music, perhaps After Ur could be described as “free ambient.“ Where ATMWorld felt playful and frantic while fighting against genre classification, After Ur feels focused and somber, actually embracing the ambient label. The album is dense and haunting with hums of clarinet and bass clarinet building heavy atmospheres.
After Ur demands deep listening and while it might take longer to reveal itself to you than the more immediate ATMWorld, the results are equally inspiring.
