The old man had smiled at Jason, honest to god smiled and Jason had been distracted enough by that that Dick managed to drag him into one of his annoying octopus like hugs. By the time Bruce walked in there was no way for him to escape.

Alfred had sat next to Jason, Cass on his other side. Dick had dragged Tim over to talk with Roy and Lian. And it all would have been good, if Bruce hadn’t picked the seat right behind Jason. He kept waiting for Bruce to say something, do something. Anything, so they could argue and fight, and Jason could get this feeling of impending doom off his chest.

But nothing happened, Bruce st behind him and laughed with Ollie, not even the fake Brucie laugh.  Alfred said something to him, Jason didn’t really catch it, and he looked over.  Cass was helping Alfred unpack a picnic basket. Of course he had packed food, Alfred had always sniffed disdainfully at the vendors offerings. Alfred handed him two sandwiches, one clearly marked as vegan. It took him a moment to choke out, “Thank you.”

He handed the vegan Sandwich to Connor with a smile. Maybe accepting these tickets to the basketball game wasn’t such a bad idea.
