Connverse: Fluff
"Ok Steven, this is one of the sleepover games my mom approved for me to bring over,” Connie chirped, pulling out a board game from her duffle bag. “Well, she didn’t really approve it, but it was in her closet.
Steven looked at the board game.
“’Mall Mania’? That doesn’t sound like a game your mom would play,” he observed.
“These were all from when she was younger so maybe medical school changed her? Anyway, we can play this or something else if you like? I also brought ‘Hint’, ‘Trust Fund’, and ‘FUBAR’.”
Steven grinned as he watched Connie pull the rest of the games out of her duffle bag. He felt so lucky that Connie hadn’t been weirded out by the evening’s earlier activities. Sure, being fused was amazing and exciting, but the incident with Kevin had stressed them out so much that Steven was worried Connie wouldn’t want to have anything to do with him after that.
But the feelings he had felt when they were fused still held true.
They didn’t even know what to do with them at this point. They were still unsure as to what to call their relationship yet. Were they still just friends?
Steven could tell that Connie was in thought as she started to set up FUBAR. She was so engrossed in what she was doing (and he was so engrossed in watching her) that they were startled at the teasing laugh of Amethyst as she left the Temple.
"You two are finally home? Awesome! Let's get this party started for real now!" Amethyst cheered as she hopped up to the loft. "Wait ... you're playing board games? Come on! You just spent the last few hours as a 'fusion of looove'," Amethyst teased, shapeshifting into Garnet momentarily. "The least you could do is end the night doing something more fun than ... whatever that is."
Connie sheepishly started to pack up the board game as Steven huffed at Amethyst.
"Come on, Amethyst! Board games are a normal part of sleepovers!" he protested. "Plus, this is our first, actual sleepover!"
"She's right though, Steven," Connie sighed. "After Stevonnie, board games seem kind of ... boring."
Steven paled. He truly knew now how insecure Connie felt about being a normal human, and he felt terrible. He knew how it felt to feel the feelings that she felt.
"Alright, alright. Here's an idea. I know some games I used to play with Vidalia if it's human stuff you want to do," Amethyst grinned. "How about Truth or Dare?"
"I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to play that one," Connie started. "Mostly the "Dare" part."
"OK," Amethyst sighed. "How about ..." The purple gem shapeshifted into a picture of a horse. "... Pin the tail on the Pony?"
Connie chuckled as Steven shook his head.
"You cheat during that one too much."
"OK," Amethyst grumbled, returning to her normal shape. "How about ..."
Then the purple gem grinned as she looked back and forth from Steven to Connie. Her gem glowed as she shapeshifted again, this time, becoming a bottle.
"Spin the bottle," Amethyst chuckled.
Connie blushed deeply as Steven looked at Amethyst, confused.
"What's that?"
"Easy. You and Connie will sit across from each other and spin the bottle, in this case, me. And if it lands on someone, you have to kiss them."
Steven blushed.
"Uh ..."
"Or you can hug them, but you have three seconds to do it or else you have to kiss them," Amethyst chuckled.
Steven looked to Connie for guidance. A part of him wanted to do this, but another part was worried that this was too much for her. After all, they had just barely begun to understand how they felt about each other.
Connie's sudden resolute nod surprised him.
"Alright. Let's do it," she nodded.
"Woo! Go Connie!" Amethyst cheered as Connie sat across from Steven.
Their eyes met.
"Connie, why don't you go first, since you're the guest?" Amethyst teased.
