Conrad bit his lip as Pru sat next to him, but he didn't push her away. He knew he had to stop doing that. He gave her hand a squeeze. "I want to so badly, which makes me feel guilty," he admitted softly. "I don't want to disappoint you again."

The very last thing Conrad wanted was for Victoire or Pru to see him drunk. But now Vic had seen him. His control was unraveling. But he couldn’t let Pru see him like this. She would surely end up hating him after seeing him messy and stumbling and near-suicidal. He’d done his best to not let it get out of control, but then the earthquake shook that resolve. He’d been so scared. He was a coward. And cowards drank.

“No. No. No. Shit.” Spinning away from the door, Conrad stood, hastily trying to make it to the bathroom before Pru could see him. Why was she here? She never came to the Sasquatch. He misjudged the distance and slammed his head against the doorframe of the bathroom entryway. He stumbled back into a chair and table with a crash.

It was incredibly warm outside, but Conrad barely noticed as he watched the sun shine off of Pru's blonde hair, glowing like a halo around her head. He caught himself staring and shook loose after a moment, swallowing hard before making his way over to her.

“Hi,” he said, standing there with his hands folded in front of him. He unfolded them and put them behind his back, and then in his pockets, before finally just folding them in front of him again. “Um.”

Hearing about the death of Pru's coworker, Conrad was worried about her. He didn't know how close the two were, but it had to be upsetting either way. So he went to the paper after his morning route to check in, tapping on the front desk absently as he waited for someone to fetch her. Normally he walked right on to the back where all the cubicles were, but this time he felt like he should stay back, be respectful.

Conrad was locking up the house for the night as the sky began to grow dark, shuttering the windows and making sure the protection rune was still clearly outlined on the inside of the door. It was only by chance that he happened to glance out the front window and see Pru walking outside.

Without hesitating, he opened the door and ran down the porch steps. “What the fuck do you think you’re doing?!” he exclaimed, grabbing her arm and yanking her back up the steps to push her hurriedly inside the house. “You have a death wish or something?!” He slammed the door shut and locked it.
