So H&M is currently advertising a new line of clothes made from plant-based materials with some nice looking non-white models, -so much for "conscious" so far - but I wonder how you make clothes so cheap without exploiting your workers in sweatshops?
I am loving H&M’s Conscious Exclusive Collection 2017. The premium collection is made from sustainable materials, including BIONIC® – a polyester made entirely of plastics recycled from shoreline waste. H&M started the initiative as a positive move towards a sustainable future, proving you can have fashion forward designs that are environmentally conscious. How cool, is that? The pieces I’ve…
Is H&M misleading customers with all its talk of sustainability?
#Updates H&M probably talks about sustainability more than any other fast-fashion brand. It produces a Conscious collection made using sustainable and recycled materials, creates glossy ad… http://qz.com/662031/is-hm-misleading-customers-with-all-its-talk-of-sustainability/ QZ.com
The fifth H&M conscious exclusive collection is due to hit stores soon, promising the use of more sustainable materials and a modern collection full of historic charm. The launch coincides with the opening of exhibition Fashion Forward – 300 years of fashion at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, to which it pays homage.
H&M have used the museums collection of archival fashions over the last three centuries of haute couture, to deliver a contemporary and artistic collection. Fluid silhouettes, arty kaftans and paint like prints add an eclectic mix of past and present.
The collection includes a range of materials including organic silk, hemp, recycled linen, in addition to innovative materials such as beads made from recycled glass and Denimite. H&M are the first company to use Denimite a material made out of recycled worn-out denim. The new season of Conscious Exclusive also includes three wedding dresses, specifically tailored to the conscious bride.
The H&M conscious exclusive collection will be available in approximately 180 stores worldwide and online from April 7th.
Well, Olivia Wilde surely is. But what about H&M? Famous for its unethical & eco-destructive practices, H&M makes amends with yearly conscious collections (and other promises) although nobody really seems to know what the “conscious” of the new collection entails so far, except beautiful cuts, patterns and lookbook. Let’s not forgot that it’s a teeny tiny part of H&M’s range. Should we resist or fall for it? Would the success of the collection trigger a bigger engagement on the brand’s side? Could/would a brand this size really become completely sustainable?
For those interested, the conscious collection comes April 16 in stores. I’ll definitely check it out (this dress IS to die for!).
