Prefacing what I'm about to post, I understand that a., I'm a singular person who simply has personal opinions; and b., those opinions are most likely not highly regarded by the majority of people following me on my relatively inactive tumblr. I also understand the concept that not all people are passionate in terms of animal rights, and to be honest I really don't have much against those who aren't. However, I hugely believe it is possible to feel and subsequently show compassion for animals without being what some consider to be "obnoxious" about it. This unfortunate caricature of the vegan PETA member is one of the many upsetting and quite frankly useless things getting in the way of humans actively being humane without stigma. One of the ways to do this is through actually paying attention to the things you purchase. It's something that I think most people support in principle, but few actually adopt. So take a look at this list and maybe, just maybe, take a serious think in terms of what you normally buy, and what a portion of that money is actually supporting. A lot of products in my own home are on this list, and I am ashamed to say I didn't even think to check until a few days ago. And while I understand that many cruelty-free products are more expensive than what many people can afford to buy regularly (believe me I do), there's really no harm in checking. Even if it means switching one or two items off your grocery list, you are then actively making a decision to lower the percentage of your income contributing to one of the many forms of animal cruelty. Just something to think about.
