You’re not an edgy individualist
Those libertarian/libertarian-light thinkers are everywhere you look. People who say ‘the government is evil and needs to be eliminated everywhere it can be’ appear on Fox and OANN. They even get invited on MSNBC and CNN. The folks at the NRA are invited everywhere. Even listening to NPR, you’re exposed to people from the Cato Institue and Reason magazine. Ronald Reagan is famous for his nine most frightening words. Steve Bannon of Breitbart worked in the White House. Alex Jones had Trump on Info Wars. These anti-government types are mainstream and have a soapbox that is legitimized constantly.
Yet, people who want to fix the government and make an honest effort to end government corruption — to tilt the balance in favor of working people —are ignored. They’re labeled as crazy. They’re called extremists. They’re smeared as anti-semites. They aren’t allowed onto the networks to defend their positions, but only to be ridiculed and be delegitimized. The so-called-left wing network of MSNBC has hosts steeped in the neo-liberal Washington bubble and are caricatures of true leftists.
When global warming is discussed they have on a scientist and a right wing lobbist. When medicare for all is discussed, they have on two people who think the policy is untenable. When college for all is brought up every network asks, “how are you going to pay for it?” When a new war is discussed, every network praises the idea.
It’s almost as if the working class’s only power is in electing a government that represents their interests and the oligarchy that the runs the world with money, wants to convince working people that government is inherently evil, untrustworthy and needs to be eliminated... almost.
