‘They’ Cannot Do it FOR YOU
This past week I had the opportunity to talk with a couple different people about moving forward with training.
Some people find the way to show up and train regardless, and we all have reasons other than the love of being tired, sweaty, and in pain that pull us from training. Others get caught up by the excuse plague and miss the opportunity to overcome adversity or challenge.
To overcome the thing in the back of the mind that validates a reason not to face the challenge is tough. When thinking about CHALLENGES and OVERCOMING ADVERSITY it is easy to imagine scenes from movies. And although most people can easily see themselves drifting their car over some railroad tracks, only to sprint back to the car that is stuck in the middle, slide over the hood to rip open the door and pull the unconscious adult out and sling them over their shoulder, then rip the baby from the back seat and gently (but tough) walk away from the car as the fast approaching train blows through the car like a foodie crushes a bag of kisses.
Most people don’t run into epic shit every day. Not that epic shit doesn’t happen, but a lot of times the epic shit is much less flamboyant and some people have grown accustomed to a just like the movies or bust sort of expectation.
The movies are great and lead to wonderful role play for sitting at a stop sign, but eventually people have to take their lives seriously and put their real bodies in the best position possible to live long and healthy. Don’t think I am saying to stop imagining epic shit. What I am saying is epic shit is a combination of countless little acts that to some people seem meaningless and unimportant.
Epic shit is a result of a process of living that has long existed the moments and days and weeks and months and years prior to the epic shit moment. When turning the corner in fitness the thought of using fitness in an epic way, like lifting a car to save a life, or impress the bitches, or show up a guy who thought he was stronger than one of the ladies, people have to use the epic thought to drive the process.
Those who are on the journey of self improvement, stop imagining it and focus on one thing at a time. THE CHALLENGE is in focusing what is now. Do the best you’re physically and mentally capable of RIGHT NOW and the response is satisfaction and progression, if you want it. Thinking of how good STEP 300 is going to feel does no good if it prevents you from focusing on STEP 2. No more procrastination and no more deflecting.
Fitness is the display of consistency over time. The sooner you start proactively progressing your ability, the sooner you’re able to do more. No matter where you are you will always be you and the sooner you accept that the happier you will be.
