The Consolette !?!
Been REALLY busy the past few weeks and haven't had a chance to even think about the 76 console! My wife and I are moving into a new house, so pretty much everything that doesn't include moving has been on the temporary back burner. My world has been filled with paint, carpet, and bathroom remodeling! I did start rebuilding one of our Electrovoice 666 microphones. The microphone sounds like there's a high pass filter on the mic up to around 200 hz. Everything else about it sounds identical to our other 666. There's a resistor/ capacitor network on a small piece of circuit board inside the microphone - which isn't shown in any EV wiring diagrams or exploded views of the mic. I suspect there's a bad cap in there (it's definitely leaky) causing the HPF. I have to look at the frequency spectrum again, but I'm fairly certain there's a roll off around 50hz. Makes sense if a component went bad that this may shift the value upwards. Parts are ordered to rebuild. I also started working on our new Soundcraft 1624. I must have plugged one of the master module connectors in backwards, because I let the smoke out. I ordered replacements for the blown parts and sockets to re-chip the PCB. Waiting on those to arrive. In the mean time, we moved the console into our control room. We also just bought a spare 162st amp for our EMT 140 plate reverb. The plate has been sitting in my garage while I work on it. This project takes precedence over anything else right now. I'd love to finish it next week to move it into the studio rather than move it to a new house, and then to the studio. The pickups and pickup circuit works fine in the amp we have now, but the drive circuit doesn't. The previous owner attempted to update the OP amps with lower noise ones, but burnt the traces off the PCB in the process! I suspect this is why the drive circuit doesn't work... Hopefully this new amp will work for us and we'll have the original for parts or to repair and keep as a spare incase there is ever an issue with the working one during a mix down session. That's all for now. I have the caps sitting on the bench for the 76 console. Hopefully by the first of September I'll have the time to install them!
