Badge Of Honor.
In our society now, people take much pride in working constantly and in sleeping as little as possible.
People gave me compliments on accomplishing so much in so little time. People were surprised when they would see email responses from me between the hours of 12 AM and 4 AM. They thought that I was intense and got shit done. In reality I was so far behind on every commitment that I made...
This was so bad that I would choose to respond to email very late in the evening or extremely early in the morning because I knew that few if anyone would respond back to me during those early morning hours. I could blow through my email responses without having to deal with any additional email coming in and distracting me. It seemed efficient but it really was not since I was not sleeping enough.
I come from a humble background and have much more ground to cover versus my friends that have come from a background of much resources, knowledge, connections and opportunities. The badge of honor is almost an unspoken badge of honor. But it feels good when people compliment you on getting so much done, “in so little time”. In my mind, every time someone complimented me, I was closing the gap and less and less people would notice that I came from a humble background.
I was hungry for more...
