Something had shifted in Carol, something was different and Beth had been watching her. Keeping an eye out and though she’d been slower on getting there, wanting to make sure she stayed a little bit behind the other woman. She glanced back at the car she’d taken, promising she’d get it back home in one piece as she looked Carol over. It was Carol, and that meant something to her. They were all family but Carol had always been like a mother figure to her, no matter what they were going through in the life they were living. She knew she could depend on the older woman and Beth admired that, looked up to it, aspired to be that kind of person.
Beth’s eyes rolled, a soft snort leaving her nose as she stared at Carol for a moment before turning and going back to the car. Dragging a backpack out of the passenger seat, she carried it back across to where Carol was. “Yeah, sure. I’m just goin’ to leave you here while you’re bleedin’. I’m just gonn’ let you leave us.” The words were colored in sarcasm, picking up other habits from people she’d been around for a long time now.
“I ain’t dumb, Carol. C’mon, now. Please. Let me help you an’ then we can go home, me an’ you, we’ll figure it all out.” She unzipped the bag, far too prepared and never going outside the gates unless she had means of survival. Pulling out a wash cloth and some medical supplies that she’d found on the last run she went on, she raised her eyebrows at Carol. “I know you can handle it but just let me clean it up for ya’.” @consumcd
