Welcome Home, Child

This is the contest prize for @ladyem-s-grimoire for my 1100 follower give-away. So sorry this took so long, I hope that you enjoy it :3))

Late at night, a child wandered through the woods clutching a stuffed bear to her side. She looked left and right as the sounds of nocturnal animals surrounded her, and she clutched the bear closer. “It’s OK, Tibbers… They won’t hurt us…” As she spoke, a white crow peered down at her from atop a high branch, tilting its head curiously.

Suddenly, the albino flew off, back towards his ‘mistress.’ She would likely want to hear about this. Honestly, he couldn’t fathom WHY she wasted her time with brats, but alas, he could not go against her wishes. The crow landed on the porch moments later, transforming into his humanoid shape and bowing.

“Lady Em. There is another one wandering through the forest as we speak.”

A woman in an elegant black dressed smiled as she took another sip of her tea, and stood. “Thank you Crimson, dear.” She placed the tea cup back onto the table and sent out a few shadows to search the forest. Particularly, she sent out the three siblings, as they were the ones who often worked best not to frighten newcomers.

The girl with the bear looked around for a safe place to sleep for the night, but alas, could find nothing. She felt as though something was watching her... Which was not far from the truth. A noise could be heard nearby; it sounded almost like laughter. Annie backed up slightly from the direction she’d heard the noise. “I-Is someone there?”

The giggling stopped. Suddenly, three children emerged from the shadows. “Don’t be scared,” the middle one said. “We’re not here to hurt you.”

The one on the left spoke. “We’re here to help you. Follow us, we’ll take you some place safe.”

Annie was relieved to see other people, but these three... They were strange. “Who are you? Where do you want to take us?” She cradled Tibbers protectively.

The child on the right spoke now. “We want to take you to Lady Em’s. Don’t worry, she’s a very kind woman. She has an orphanage here in the forest. She often takes in children like you, who get lost wandering in the woods.”

“Children get lost here a lot,” the middle one said. “But we three find them and bring them back to Lady Em.” All three smiled, waiting for the girl’s response.

Annie hesitated. still uncertain. The distant howling of a wolf, however, quickly made her change her mind instantly. Without a word, she began to follow the three back through the woods, until they eventually reached a large clearing with a cottage that seemed immensely out of place.

A woman stood on the porch, hand folded before her expectantly. Her face was beautiful, and her smile was kind as she greeted the new arrival. “Welcome home, child.”

Yo, we did it guys! Thanks to you all, I am officially at 750 followers! In celebration of this event, I wanted to do something a bit different than my usual poetry contests. So, without further ado, here are the rules:

You must be following me, obviously. I’m alright with new followers after this post but I’ll not accept those “giveaway blogs” as actual entries.
