from the research I've been doing there's a screenshot going around of august stating that zu looks very similar to his deceased brother who's daughters he adopted shortly after their mother passed... it's giving unhealed trauma bonds. you can tell that he's been through a lot before and after he entered the industry. I also think think that mess with jada happened when he was 23 and estranged from his family at the time and she clearly took advantage of his fragile mind. it's sad to see cause he's clearly doing the same thing to zu. i'm unsure of what zu's home life was like but it certainly wasn't the best if his parents were okay with him running off to be with some c-list r&b singer at 17.. this thing is a disaster waiting to happen when that boy gets older and realizes what august did/is doing to him.
