End Of Year Fic-Writer ask meme: 1, 3, 6, 7, 8 and 10 :-D

1 What’s your personal favourite thing you wrote this year?

That’s pretty hard, because (surprise) I like all of the things I wrote this year quite much. That’s good! But Lessons Learned is special to me because it says a lot with little words and it feels as if every word ended up exactly where it belonged and I think it’s pretty strong pieces of story. I also like 72 Gründe, an der Welt zu verzweifeln (und einer, es nicht zu tun), because a) it helped me cope a lot with aweful things that happened this year (terrorism) and b) it was written down in no time and did not need much edit but still turned out pretty nicely written.

3 Which of your fics was most different from what you usually write?

That is definitely Vier Sorten Scotch, rauchig im Abgang mit einem Hauch Honig! It is stylistically SO different from everything I have ever written before! It was a total fight to write but I am extremely proud on it.

6 What’s your favourite piece of dialogue you wrote this year? 7 What’s your favourite piece of description or narration?

(I’ll think about these next days and answer with @continuousspec‘s ask. This needs some rereading and stuff.)

8 Which fic this year was most fun to write?

My first crack fic Von fliegenden Einhörnern und nicht gemachten Erinnerungen. But also Lebensanleitung, which is my ongoing happy fic and really different from what I usually write and it’s fun to have a really different story. Also Prinzipien. Well, I guess most of 2016 things were pretty fun to write. Even the hard ones.

10 What, if anything, are you going to try to do differently in your writing in the new year?

Uhm… Nothing? I had a lot of fun writing this year and I hope next year will be same. :) Be as creative, allow myself to go new paths with writing (like in Vier Sorten Scotch), write what makes me happy no matter if people are interested - that’s it. 2016 was at leat a good year in writing for me. :)

Whats Max's favorite piece of tech to use? And why did Kate join the Alliance?

Max is really attached to her drones. They have names and individualized paint jobs to match their personalities. Sometimes she talks to them. No one else knows about this. (Garrus finds out, in a couple of years, when he catches her in the act. He gives her shit about it, but secretly thinks it's cute.)

Kate joined the Alliance because she couldn’t really see herself doing anything else. She spent her life on ships, and she knew she wanted to do something that wouldn’t make her pick one place and stay in it. There are a limited number of jobs that let you do that, and she knew how military life worked, and she knew she’d be good at it, so that’s what she went with. It turned out to be the best decision she ever made.

What was Eliza Shepard first memory?

Having the chicken pox -- which is still somehow a thing in the twenty-second century -- is her first memory. She was four years old, and she was absolutely, heart-wrenchingly miserable. It wasn’t a terrible infection, which meant that six months later, she got it again, and Hannah took her to the emergency room twice when she wouldn’t stop crying/completely stopped eating.

Do you have any faceclaims for Grace or Rose?

Not...really. I have vague kind of “Ahh, she sort of looks like so-and-so,” notions in my head, but nothing as specific as GRACE HAS THIS FACE or ROSE LOOKS LIKE HER.

I was going to say I had screenshots in their tags, but then I went looking and realized that whatever screenshots I have are really buried? I found this one of Grace (which is one of my favorite shots of her). I sometimes think redheaded Bridget Regan reminds me of Grace a bit? With fuller lips and big, grey-green eyes. Maybe. (I’m terrible with the real people faces thing. Honestly.) When I’m creating characters I tend to think about their attributes rather than faceclaims. Like, Grace is elegant and manipulative and loyal and loving and scared and determined. She’s a pretty face with so, so, so much more going on underneath.

And I have these screenshots of Rose, which is the most accurate I've been able to recreate a character from my head in a character creator (thanks to that curly haired mod). Rose is cute and enthusiastic and excited and loving. She’s caring and compassionate and has a temper and sometimes acts before thinking. She’s bright and clever and collects pretty things. She hates being alone.

(I do have more screenshots of both somewhere on my computer. At least I know I have lots of Rose and definitely some of ME1 Grace--though I’m afraid many of my later Grace shots have been lost in computer changes D:)

They are cute jerks. The grey one is Ed, the white one is Mr. T. Their favorite things are stealing food they shouldn’t eat, begging for head scratches, and whistling the first two bars of the Star Wars Imperial March over and over again.

Thank you! Hoatzin are really kind of ungainly and disheveled (one of their colloquial names is the stink bird), but they’re surprisingly photogenic.
