For anyone wondering, the PhD student's name is Myra Cheng.
Here's a link to an article about the study from the Stanford Report: link.
Across three preregistered studies, participants interacting with sycophantic AI became more convinced of their own rightness and less willing to repair relationships. Yet at the same time, participants rated sycophantic AI models as higher quality, more trustworthy, and more desirable for future use, which may explain why this behavior has persisted despite its harmful impacts.

A tiny spinning update: my ability to spin very fine singles is progressing quite well! I'm a long way from spinning a plied laceweight yarn (or sewing thread, as I've seen some people do!), but it's been so satisfying to get a fairly consistent laceweight single.
Of course, for my project for the Tour de Fleece, I'll need to spin thicker plies, since I'm aiming for a worsted-weight yarn, but this is a good exercise in control and in consistent fiber drafting.
My fault for going into the tags but if someone's critique of a book was "this was too unambiguously set within a Christian framework, and I was disappointed that the resolution was one that endorsed Christianity, after an entire book set in a deeply Christian environment and existing in agreement with that theology, and so this was a bad book to me", but the book itself states unilaterally that it is operating within a Christian framework and treats that framework as fact in-universe...
...then the issue is that you were expecting a completely different book than the one you were reading, not any kind of technical or storytelling issue on the book's/author's part!
It is fair to say "I'm not a fan of books that deal with Christianity so unambiguously, so this book wasn't my thing", or anything along those lines but, "I wanted a book about THIS and then was disappointed when a book stated, repeatedly and unequivocally, that it was about something VERY different, and that is the book's fault", is just nonsense. NONSENSE.
Sometimes a family is an excommunicated knight-turned brigand who still has moral lines he will not cross and is possessed of an inherent nobility he has done everything to strangle just to survive, a priest comprised in equal parts wine, gay longing, and compassion, and a pre-teen girl who claims to hear angels and whose first and best defense to evil is "hiding up a tree".
Congratulations to my Tumblr, which is now old enough to vote.
