This is so crazy that Taylor literally made them change the way they conduct their business in order to have a contract her, but it’s also so completely on brand. Ok so literally since streaming has been a big component of the music industry taylor has taken a strong stance against music companies and services using the artists and exploiting them without proper pay. Thats why she didn’t put her music on spotify, because she as an artist could afford the decreased exposure to listeners, and she did it because the contracts were unfair to the artists but smaller artists didnt really have a choice in the matter. Cut to the apple music letter, she called them out on it, and they listened and started paying the artists more appropriate amounts. Then there’s always been the big spotify issue, but i’m thinking she released her music on spotify after they began discussing this new contract, and because it was a while after rep and putting it on spotify would cause another spike in exposure for it. But she’s always gotten a lot of hate for her choices regarding streaming because people think that she’s being greedy (a la lwymmd video when shes robbing the streaming service but not taking any money) when really its for smaller artists and to create a more collaborative and better future for the music industry, so its not just big companies collecting all the money from the people for the music the artists made and i just love her for that. Also having full ownership of her music masters is a really big deal. She didnt have ownership to her song masters for anything up to now, which are basically the first recording of the song from which the actual song is mixed from to make the final product. So big machine owns every single master of all of her songs and its worth millions. She will own all of hers from now on and i wouldn’t be surprised if she tried to buy her old ones as well
