Hi! Do your little beebs make noises based on emotions? I have a young parrotlet and when we recall train and he lands successfully on my hand, he'll make a little squeal! He also does it when he sees food sometimes. Before I keep thinking it is cute and encouraging it, this is a good behavior, right? Parrots do have a language of sorts, they even have names for one another as concluded by a study done on green rumped parrotlets. Different chirps mean different things, same as different words and tones mean different things to us. They will present some chirps when they’re excited or happy, others while they’re agitated or mad and a different tone when they’re sleepy. My birds don’t make a ‘squeal’ as you’ve described when they’re happy, they’ll make a sort of ‘merp’ when agitated or overstimulated, repetitive short bursts of high notes when they’re fighting or mad, soft trills and squeaks when they’re tired, grumbly sounds when they’re content, a loud, precise chirp when upset or ‘hurt’, general happiness may be one medium-toned, short chirp and hyper moments are commonly filled with very loud calls while flying in circles around the room.
