Every so often I start doubting myself on whether I’m reading too much into Zack + Cloud scenes and then I double check what happens in Crisis Core and I’m like, “Hm. Yeah, that’s true love right there.”

Also, I can’t stop thinking about the TV Tropes page listing Cloud as a secondary love interest in CC. Just reading the paragraph makes me feel insane like yes! Those were heavy romantic overtones weren’t they!

You’re totally fine lol I know what you mean. Let me live vicariously through you — I’ve been so unexpectedly busy lately and I haven’t been able to binge on anything, especially FF7.

It’s really hard to explain but I just find them naturally very sweet together and their chemistry just kind of… really works for me? Like normally I’m not particularly big on shipping or anything like that but they’re one of a few that just kind of click when I see them and I’m just like…. aaaah yes, endorphins. 😌 It’s nice to see them happy together and see that other people feel the same way because god knows the canon ain’t gonna let that last lmao.

Not sure if you’ve had an ask about this before, but I’ll ask you to consider: Feral Time-Travel Cadet! Cloud continually attempting assault/assassination/ bodily harm to Seph, but Zack just. Keeps accidentally getting in the way.

Cloud, in the vents of the cafeteria lining up his sniper rifle: “That’s right. get your Shinra-issued chicken sandwich…. I’m ready to finish this…”

Sephiroth: *does not notice because he’s too busy thinking about what to get for Genesis’ birthday*: “hmm I wonder if he’d like another copy of Loveless?? It’s his favorite book so it shouldn’t matter how many copies he has, right?”

Zack, running up the Seph and completely blocking Cloud, causing him to panic because ‘oh Gaia what if I accidentally hurt Zack??’ : “omg hiiii Seph anyway I was thinking that Angeal is probably going to get a plant that Gen will probably kill but do you think if I get him a how-to guide he’d learn how to take care of it?”

Seph: “…no.”

Cloud, attempting to get away before anyone notices him hanging from the ducts: “shit shit shit shit-“

But it suddenly breaks after him (because Shinra is cheap asf) and he falls onto a table full of cadets eating their lunch. Sephiroth raises an eyebrow, Zack smiles in complete confusion but-hey-it’s-Spiky!

Cloud: “….hi Zack”

This happens several times a month

This is similar to a subplot in one of my favorite Time Travel/Cadet Cloud fics and I love it so much lol.

Favorite FF7 weapons? Or Final Fantasy weapon in general (not counting black mage/white mage magic)? For me it’s got to be Cloud’s Nail Bat / Ultima Weapon (Buster Sword is iconic but not really my style), Genesis’ fire magic rapier a la training room cutscene, Tifa’s fists, or Yuffie’s giant shurikan that she just kind of waves around to cause massive amounts of damage. For favorite Final Fantasy weapon in general, I’m partial to Zidane’s paired daggers in FF9. Don’t worry about answering if you don’t really think about this stuff! I’m just curious and always enjoy hearing your opinion on things. Thank you either way!

So I’m gonna be completely transparent here: In the older FF games, I tend to get lazy, over level, and ultimately brute force my way to the end because I absolutely despise turn-based combat lol. Would rather have a root canal.

So with that said, I’m basing this solely on aesthetic preferences:

Brotherhood (X) — Blue and reminds me of the ocean. 15/10 could not ask for an aesthetic I like better.

Caladbolg (X) — See #1. I just prefer Brotherhood more because I’m not as big a fan of all the gold embellishments and shit.

Noct’s Armiger/Royal Arms (XV) — No one weapon of Noct’s really sticks out to me, personally, but I think the concept of the armiger as a whole is great and it looks fucking awesome in action.

Genesis’ Rapier (VII:CC) — The whole sword is appealing because I prefer more ‘magical’, impossible looking blades. Probably one the prettiest hilts I’ve ever seen on a sword in this franchise.

Save the Queen (various, but IX’s is the version I’m thinking of) — Love the name and how elegant it looks.

First Tsurugi/Fusion Sword (FFVII:AC) — Typically don’t really like big fuckoff swords, but this almost feels like a Bloodborne trick weapon and I love that.

(Squall’s) Gun Blade (VIII) and Cerberus (FFVII) — Honestly they just look cool idk what else to say lol.

Honorable mentions: Not typically a fan of twin blades/daggers/etc., but I do like Nyx’s kukris — however, it’s more “I like this character’s entire aesthetic” than the kukris by themselves. Also technically not Final Fantasy, and it’s the probably one of the dumbest weapon concepts I have ever seen to date, but some Kingdom Hearts Keyblade designs like Ultima Weapon and Oathkeeper are pretty great. Also some of the DFFOO weapons like Zack’s Heaven’s Cloud LD are pretty great in terms of design as well.

Shinra is undoubtedly a representation of classism and elitism, and also acts as a representation/critique of capitalism, but to call Shinra, the concept, fascist? And to call people ‘fascists’ for liking or finding interesting certain concepts/characters pertaining to Shinra? Especially in a sci-fi/fantasy setting like FF7… doesn’t really make sense. Fiction is literally a vehicle to explore ideas that might be uncomfortable or at the very least unbelievable in real life. There’s nothing wrong with finding Rufus Shinra hot or wishing the Turks received more depth/characterization. They are characters. In a fictional setting. The story of FF7 itself couldn’t function without the concept of Shinra and all that that entails. It’s ridiculous to call people who might want to see more of that idea explored ‘fascists’ or whatever other buzzword they can come up with. Sorry for the paragraph, it just annoys me that you have to deal with these clowns (and by extension their bad takes reaching my eyes). I don’t even touch most Shinra-focused fan content, but to see a whole subset of the fandom (who are completely valid btw) called fascists isn’t just offensive, it’s plain ignorant. If you don’t like Shinra/it’s related characters, fine. Keep it to yourself. (Reminds me of that I-Hate-Zack anon, who just HAD to come spouting off in your, a known Zack enthusiast, inbox). It’s their opinion, fine, but honestly those kind of I-hate-x-part-of-the-fandom people have no business sending asks like that when a) they know what kind of blog you are and what your opinions on that kind of shit are, and b) they should know by now they’re going to get clowned so why???

Fwiw: I keep it open/allow Anon because I know some people would feel awkward sending prompts, even if I promised to manually censor the name before posting. So, in that regard, I feel like the good/fun of it all far outweighs a few dumb Anons here and there that are easy to clown on lol. Plus, 95% of the Anons I get like this, whether it’s FF7, Spardacest, or whatever dumb fuck take just get an IP block flat out anyway, and I don’t waste my time on a response. Only the ones I find spectacularly stupid and logic defying make it to post lol. So I’m not pressed at all by them tbh. Embarrassed for them, sure, but not pressed.

Far too many people on here and elsewhere use the term ‘fascist’ (or other buzzwords) to stigmatize something they don’t like without knowing what the word (or the actual political philosophy in this case) really means, and it does nothing but make the word lose all meaning in the long run.

I legit don’t know how people still miss that point of the story — ShinRa is literally a lesson in corporate greed and how it can destroy the world and the people within it. I’m also assuming that person is either a Remake only player or just missed the fucking point entirely — because Rufus’ whole Compilation arc is him seeing how bad ShinRa has fucked the planet and trying to do something to fix it. Like, they all but tell you he’s the one backing Reeve’s — also a former ShinRa exec’s — WRO.

The other thing that makes me laugh is like. Who are the characters I typically write about? Angeal, Genesis, Sephiroth, Zack, and Cloud. Who do they all work for at some point? ShinRa. And while Cloud may not have, the other four have absolutely spilled blood for that company. So would this not technically make me one of those ‘fascist-lovers’ too? Or is it because that person liked one or more of those characters, that I’m excluded from that criticism? Like, I would have legitimately loved to have known their opinion — if me liking Noct n’ co. makes me a supporter of a real life autocracy, or if that’s fine because those are the protagonists. Lol.

People get so fucking pressed about this stuff they don’t enjoy and will piss and moan endlessly about shit they don’t like and it’s like. Holy shit. Just fucking block what you don’t like/are uncomfortable by and you’ll be so much happier than you would coming and making passive-aggressive comments in my (or anyone else’s) inbox. Like, I’ve blocked for everything from being an actual shitty human being and/or making content I find genuinely fucking gross, all the way down to being an annoying theorycrafter and/or just generally being annoying. Shit’s in the thousands at this point, and my skin is clear and I sleep very well at night because of it lol — you don’t see me starting like hate campaigns and going into people’s inboxes to be a cunt or w/e.
