You talk to a lot of Canadian artists. When it comes to substance in the music, do you think there is a difference in what is coming out of Toronto compared to the industry in general? Can you share some examples where an interview with an artist to talk about their music touched on a bigger picture social issue? Who are some of the artists that you gather the most inspiration from? This is a glimpse into what we will be touching on with Chedo. Chedo is the host and founder of @thecomeupshow - a podcast and website dedicated to Hip Hop culture. Celebrating 10 years of production, “The Come Up Show” has become a leading platform in documenting Hip Hop in Canada. Chedo’s passion for radio was sparked in 1996, when he arrived in Canada and discovered was his love of Hip Hip. In 2007, Chedo found his way onto the airwaves on 94.9FM in London, Ontario in a 2am-6am overnight slot, where he began paying his dues. Eventually, he found his way into a Monday afternoon in the schedule when he founded “The Come Up Show”. Interview after interview, his skills as an interviewer and his vision for the show grew. Eventually, the platform expanded from a radio show to include a blog, video interviews, and a podcast. One of the things that defines Chedo’s approach as a host is his exhaustive research. He approaches artists as people first, and is just as interested in learning about the family and community experiences that have shaped an artist, as he is in their single, album or tour. The goal, always, is building the trust that will give listeners interviews that they will remember and will be impacted by.
